AIRBAG SYSTEM 3Executive summary This report entails a detailed explanation on the airbag system found in cars which is also known as the supplementary restraint system. The basic operation principle of the airbag system which enables safety to both the passengers and the driver is also tabled. besides , since there exists different types of car air bag systems , a report on the detailed explanation of the types has beenlaid down to help differentiate the systems and give a clear understanding on the most appropriate type of air bag system to be applied[ CITATION Fra09 \l 1033 ]. Nevertheless, the difference between active and passive safety vehicle, importance and the limitations of the airbag system has also been discussed in this research paper.in the report, I willgive a description on the importance of airbag system in automotive with regards to the injuries and the deaths experienced as well as the disadvantages and the benefits that the supplementary airbag system has. In conclusion, the future of the auto motive airbag system will be discussed and how the system can be improved for the purposes of attaining safer protection to the passengers and the driver[ CITATION Fed09 \l 1033 ].Introduction The automotive industry have advanced over the years and in the past the airbag system has not been availed and those that were equipped with the system are very few and perhaps it was limited to those who could afford expensive vehicles . Now, the system has been incorporated to almost all vehicles hence making it affordable to mo0st persons. The airbag system is significant in enhancing the safeties o both the driver and the passengers on board thereby minimizing the incidences of injuries and even deaths. The airbag system works in conjunction with the safety belts system such that the driver or the passenger will be strategically positioned such that in the event of an accident, the casualty can hit the airbag system with the head. The new car

The more the number of airbags in a vehicle, the higher the chances of surviving during incidents of collision or just accidents[CITATION Akh13 \l 1033 ].Methodology There exists various methods that are employed while doing a research task. These methods include primary data collection methods which involves the actual collection of data from the fields though interviews, questionnaires etc. and secondary data collection methods such as obtaining of information from internet and from the library. The method of research that has been employed in this research is the secondary method of data collection which entails the collection of information from library sources; automotive vehicle safety[CITATION Geo01 \l 1033 ].Literature review History of air bag system The airbag system was invented in the 1951 and patented by a German and American natives named Walter Linder and john Henrik respectively. Herrick came about the idea of the airbag system in the army while working on compressed air from torpedoes. He was intrigued by the urge to prevent some accidents and thus invented the system naming it the safety cushion assembly for automotive vehicles. On the other hand, Linder had an experience while working on compressed air and that the system can be triggered by a sensor that is situated in the bumper. In addition , Allen breed , an American had his airbag also patent I the year 1967 which at that time was the only air bag system that operated on a sensing technology and utilized an electromechanical sensor and a mechanical ball . This system had the capability of deploying the
