Background
•Deans is small community which is situated into town of Livingston in
West Lothian. Population of this area is around 3641.
•Unemployment and poverty is major challenging aspects within rural
area so Deans community mainly faces this issues and from this reason it
impacts on health sustainblity of people as well.
•From the evaluation of health survey of Deans community in West
Lothian and Scotland it’s been clearly identified that harmful drink
badly impacts and affects on people mental and physical health disability
and it impacts on society activities like violence, crime and many more .
• In comparison with most other areas of West Lothian, Deans has the
3rd highest number of deprivation in West Lothian and
the 11% most deprived areas in Scotland.
• Alcohol is frequently found to be a factor in poverty and deprivation.

•Deans (1271.41)has the highest number of alcohol-related hospital
•admission than West Lothian (599.75) and Scotland(621.29).
•2.4 times more men than women are admitted.
•Admission rates 7 times higher in the most deprived areas than

From the national small community survey its been identified that
alcohol mainly consumption by 2003 and 04 also in 2013 and 04
Why is Alcohol a problem in the community
•Almost crimes happens from the uses of Alcohol in poverty area
because people don’t have stability and jobs so they not capable to
manage their lifestyles and fulfil daily essential needs in Deans area
(Iveson and Deary, 2019).
• Highest number of crime act in Deans when compared to West
Lothian and Scotland. Property loss, both public and private.
• From the evaluation of data its been identified that within
2007/18 Deans had the highest number of road accidents.
• Leads to a big burden on the public health and the NHS.
•WHO data represent that alcohol is one of the most negative
aspect or impacts on health.
•From the national health care services its been analyses that
means mainly prefers and use alcohol from lack of essential needs
completion.

Alcohol is harmful drink which create reason of physical and mental health issues. From the
learning of this topic makes clarity in which major factors provide to individual towards with
application of alcohol (McInnes, Martin and MacArthur, 2018).
