Regarding Allen Whitcomb Case Study
Introduction to Psychology Case Studies
When reviewing Allen Whitcomb’s notes and reports by his wife, therapist, and manager
it is hard not to overlook his recent personal crisis. Mr. Acolor-blind husband with two children
in college lost his legs due to the text-and-driving car accident. He currently experiences chronic
pain that affects his work, feels sadness, trouble sleeping, and fatigue. His wife, Erin Whitcomb,
informs that he “always seems on edge,” is anxious and unfriendly, seeks quiet and calm
environments, and that he “treats her unkindly after watching violent television shows.” At work,
he shows signs that he is experiencing a delay in cognitive function demonstrated by his lack of
new information retention. The article I chose to assist in my case study of Mr. Allen Whitcomb,
is Cognitive Distortion and Depression in Chronic Pain: Association With Diagnosed Disorders.
Subsequently perceiving Allen’s behavior, I noted some mental concerns as below.
Brain and Behavior
The brain is in charge of our musings, activities, and conduct ordinary. Prior to Allen
accident, he was sound and active. After the accident, he was discouraged, furious, and forceful.
This sort of behavior appears to be basic after a terrible accident. It appears the limbic system
was damaged by the accident. (Feldman 2012, p. 68).
Sensation and Perception
It was drawn out into the open that Allen was partially blind. Individuals who
are visually challenged see the universe of hues unique, typical vision sees
beautiful, they seem dull. So after more research I find, perceptual
consistency have an influence in Allen thinking he seems more distant than
before. (McLeod 2008, P.76)
