INTRODUCTION
Corporate strategy can be defined as a framework which is related to the decisions of the entire
organisation. It is considered the most important strategy for the growth and development of the
business(Bhaduri, 2019). The report will be on Amazon and Asda and their HR policies in
managing the human resources. The report will also address the corporate strategies followed by
these two companies to maintain their position in the market. The main areas of HR policies will
be included in order to find the management system of these organisation's. It also includes a
reflection on management and team working skills which are very essential.
MAIN BODY
Amazon Corporate Strategy
Amazon is an American company which is operating internationally in various countries. The
company was founded in the year 1994 by Jeff Bezos. The headquarter of the company is in
Seattle, Washington and Arlington, US. The organisation is the largest online website in the
world. The business strategies which are currently adopted by the organisation are discussed
below:
The company has focused on framing policies with keeping in mind the cost leadership,
differentiation and focus. This has helped the business in gaining a competitive advantage
in the market and fulfilling the needs of all its stakeholders. The value and engagement of
the shareholders has also increased over the period of time(Booth and Kessler, 2021). It
has offered affordable prices and best quality of products to the customer's which
increase the engagement level.
Amazon realises the importance of the Information Technology and aims to improve the
technology constantly. This has helped the company in providing the customer's with best
experience. This is the reason the organisation is the most successful e-commerce
platform in the world. The role of IT is very essential in managing all the processes of
business smoothly.
The company has made its presence recognised in the minds of the customers which is
giving the advantage of larger consumer base. The sales and profits has also increased
due to the presence of business operations in most of the countries. It has also helped the

Amazon has developed a strong distribution channel which is ensuring the supply of

The company has used superior logistics in its business operations which has helped in

market.
One of the biggest reason for the success of Amazon is its business strategies. The
company is providing a wide range of products to its customer's which is catering the
need of every type of consumer in the market. This will help the company in increasing
the base of customer's. The organisation is dealing in home goods, electronics, cloud
computing and artificial intelligence which has given a major competitive advantage to
the company in the market(Collins, CookMonie and Raum, 2019).
Asda Corporate Strategy
Asda is a British supermarket chain which has its headquarter in Leeds, UK. The company was
founded by Noel Stockdale and J.W. Hindell. It is considered one of the most successful
companies in the retail market in UK. The corporate strategies of the organisation are discussed
below:
Asda allows its customer's to connect with the online services which helps in budgeting
and meal planning. The company has focused on its digital supply chain management by
introducing Blue Yonder. This is helping in order fulfilment, demand projection and
managing the supply chain of the business.
The organisation has expanded its business from food to clothing and home goods. It has
also started providing financial services which is increasing its range of products. This
has made a huge positive impact on the sales of the business in the last few years. The
company has also entered in new markets which is showing its positive on the
performance(Connor, 2021).
The company has focused on maintaining personal touch with all the consumers through
social media platforms. It has also requested its customer's to give their opinions and

One of the main strategy adopted by Asda is creating a extensive distribution channel
across UK to distribute the products in the stores. It increases the reach of the business as
it gives customer's an option to buy the products from any nearby store. The consumers
also prefer to purchase goods and services from a offline store(Heath, 2018).
The corporate strategy of both these companies is a bit different. Amazon mainly focuses on
customer's satisfaction and improving the experience with the use of modern technology. It helps
the company in reaching a large number of customer's and increasing the sales and profits of the
buisness. While Asda focuses more on customer engagement and distribution channel. This
allows the organisation to provide a personal touch to its customer's. Both these companies are
doing well in their respective business by following their own unique strategies and policies.

The HR policies which are followed by Amazon in its business are discussed below:
Recruiting and staff employee: Recruitment is referred to as a process of identifying
attracting interviewing selecting hiring and on boarding employees .this is a process of
hiring eligible candidates for an organisation or a firm for a specific position in the firm
.Amazon recruiting consists of main six parts: resume screening, phone screening, hiring
manager interview, writing test, loop interview and hiring committee review(Ikramov,
Mamajonov and Toshpulatov, 2019).
Employees training and development: This is referred to as an educational activity
within a company to help and organisation to enhance the knowledge and skill of the
employees while providing them information and instruction related to better
performance in specific task. Amazon has committed a 1.2 billion dollars to provide the
education to more than 300000 employees. This shows that the company knows the value
of its workers and realises the importance of training and development in improving the
existing skills of the employee's(Khan and Yairi, 2018).
Human resources compliance: Every business has to comply with the rules and
regulations which are applicable. This helps in proper functioning of its operations.

Employee training and development: Training is very important for improving the
skills and knowledge of the employee's. This will help in enhancing the quality of work
and stay more focused. Asda conducts various trainings and development programs in
order to help employee's succeed in their respective line of work. The company monitors
the performance and give them valuable feedback so that they can work hard in their
growth and development.
Human resource compliance : There are various laws which are to be complied by the
businesses in order to work properly. The human resource laws govern the overall

Asda. Asda still needs to figure out the areas where it is lacking in order to enhance the
performance and achieve the desired objectives and goals. This is the reason Amazon is ruling

The reflection of team working and management
Delegation is the top most important for team-working as it leadership is identify the best
individual for particular job and utilize effective efforts of each individuals. It also help in review
or re-evaluate the task after assigning by the managers. I have leant so many skill that help me to
gain well knowledge of delegation so that I can easily transfer the responsibility according to the
employees. For example, I have assign the task to my team members as per there skills and
knowledges but I have faced difficulty to maintain task effectively. I have faced challenges in

employees. For instance, I had spend more time with my members without having boundary line
so that it may impacted on my job role and no one took me serious while I express my point. I
have leant about how to improve the effective relationship with relationship boundary so that I
can maintain the respects and relatable from my members. I have showed interest in my entire
team members beyond the workplace but I do not discussion about inappropriate topics.
Team building is an intentional and ongoing process in which managers have skills to
create strong relationship, strengthen bonds and boost the communication between my team
members. For example, I had faced difficulty in managing my new members as every team
member not not familiar with others that make me more challenging. I have tried to and
coordinating and communicate with each members of team so that improve the support systems
in the groups. I can easily interconnect with each other and encourage the employees to maintain
the effective relationship in the organisation so that they can easily support to each others.
Communication is a necessary element of the organisation as it require every stage of the
organisation. The regular communication build the effective rapport and trust between
employees and managers For example, I have failed to explain the organisational vision and
target due to lack of communication skills so that it improve the frustration level across the
employees. I have learnt set of standards and models that help in improve the communication
skills so that every individual share their information and ideas. I have generally focus on the

feedback of my employees after completion of the conversations that improve the confidence
and value among employees. I have never give-up attitude that me to gain the different skill and
knowledges for the establishing the effective team members in order to accomplish the
predetermined objectives.
The organisational managers require to make effective decision in order to improve the
organisational performance. The manager have set different type of strategy for settling disputes,
action plan for crises and external changes to address the issues. For example, I had faced
difficulty in decision making in the COVID as sudden the changes in external factors. I had
lacking in effective analysis of external factors that play major role in organisational
development. I have learnt different type of decision making that may help to analyse the
external factor through SWOT and PESTLE analysis that make me more confident. I have
considered the view or idea of individual member of the team that improve the participation of
the employees in order to gain the decision making skill at executive level.
Time management, responsibility and accountability are all essential for organisational
development and growth as it improve the operational work of the company. For instance, I have
assigned daily base target to their employees so I have faced difficulty to draw the deadline of
particular task. I have developed the different type of management skill that help to complete the
delegated task before the deadline. I have good skill of responsibility and accountability toward
top level managers in order to maintain the strong relationship. Effective Leadership are the
important for organisational success as it improve the motivation and influence the individual
toward common objectives. I have used different type of leadership style that help to maintain
the good relationship in my team in order to meet the specific objectives. Most of the time, I
can use coach type of leadership as it improve the learning of individual or employees from their
mistake so that it eliminate big mistake in the company.
The organisational planning is a outline that support the organisational culture, positive
relationship, enhance job satisfaction and boost the participation in designing plans. For
example, I have faced challenges in creating the organisational plan for better development of
organisation in order to move ahead from my competitors. I have learnt about how to create
effective plan through analysis different information and data. Plan should be realistic so that
company can easily move the path of planing so that they can smoothly perform the task as per
their planning. I can easily analyse the entire resource and make effective utilisation of such

resources that will help to meet the organisational objectives. I also allows my team members to
take participation in planing activities that help to improve the self learning of my team
members. I have monitors and review of the my plans so that I can easily modify some elements
in the plaining, if any needed. The effective planing needs flexibility and easily adjust in future
periods so that I have more focused on such things that make me innovative.
CONCLUSION
The above stated report concluded that human resources management is very important
for an organizational development and growth as well. It has been concluded that effective HRM
play a crucial role in the company development so that company move ahead from their
competitors. The HRM is responsible for training and developments that make organisation
strengthen and improve employer & employees relationship in order to meet the predetermined
objectives. The HRM are also play in maintaining the healthy culture in the organisation as it
emphasis on their friendly culture and eliminating the toxic culture in the management. There
are different type of role of HR managers such as recruiting, learning & development, create
employees relations and compensation & benefits for their employees. This report also
concluded that team-working and management are help in overcoming from weaknesses so that
individual more ahead toward development.
