Media bias is one of the most interesting aspects in the political features of the United
States. Media plays a very crucial role in manipulating the role of the political parties in the role
of the government. It has been noticed for a long time that the media has been biased towards the
progressive-liberal values and the conservative values. It has sometimes focused on both the
ways also (Carney, 2015). Therefore, it is highly needed to see this issue as a very serious matter
since these activities has constantly violated the ethical norms of the standard journalism and
supporting political parties and their activities directly.
Most of the articles published in the newspapers regarding their political opinions are
completely biased. Some articles are quite biased over the progressive liberals and others are
biased against the conservatives. This type of media biasness has actually harmed the political
scenario and the good gesture between the different political parties (Carney, 2015). Many
newspaper articles have admitted their biasness both for and against the two political parties.
Many critics have penned down their opinions regarding this concept also.
Some critics believe that this has completely degraded the overall quality of the proper
journalism. This is why it is highly important to note that the media bias in the journalism of
United States has given the undue advantages to the political parties in a variety of ways
(Sarwar, Zafar & Riaz, 2019). The main problem that occurs because of it is the distrust among
the readers of the newspapers. They stop believing the news printed on the papers. Newspaper is
one such medium that reaches all the important information to the common people (Siegfried,
2018). If the representation of these papers are full of biasness, it will; definitely hamper the
democracy also.

Most of the media houses go after the narratives that will catch the attention of the
readers at once. The media houses are so desperate to do this that they even can change the truth
to get their jobs done. So, it becomes inevitable that the people stop believing the media houses
and mutual trust between the two sources break down completely. The news media based on
Washington is completely based on the Washington based issues (Siegfried, 2018). It has been
noticed to somewhat degree that the media houses of the United States possess a tilt towards the
left regarding the political, social and economic issues.
This is quite surprising for a capitalist and extreme right wing country like the United
States but the media is more biased towards the progressive liberals. The example of Bill Keller
can be given in this scenario. He was one of the most senior columnists of the New York Times
but he later became the Executive Editor of that particular media house (Siegfried, 2018). It is a
very astonishing fact that he became the Executive Editor of the New York Times despite his
political stance was completely liberal.
According to several studies, It has been seen that most reporters working the United
States follow the left path in the American Center. This biasness leads them to focus on the
negative aspects of the republican right wing government and their activities in this matter. The
cloistering for the left-of-the-center viewpoint has left these people completely unaware of the
viewpoints that the Conservatives have proposed (Ijaz et al., 2017).
This causes an imbalance in the social discord and they provide the news in their own
ways, sometimes even changing it. These types of biased comments have also been passed by the
media on different comments on important figures like Mitt Romney. The fact that led the media
houses to run after him with their guns blazing was the issue that Romney was completely a

‘anti-woman extremist’. Thus, the gender biasness of such political personnel shaped the
political sphere of the United States. Thereafter, the world saw the rise of Donald Trump as the
President of the United States of America (Ijaz et al., 2017).
In order to avoid this kind of media biasness, there are some watchdog groups in the
United States who always look to check the stories before publishing and aware the people about
the motives of these media houses since they only want to manipulate the political stances of the
common people in the United States. It has been claimed in research report that 7.1% media
personnel have recognized them as the followers of Republicans, 28.1% of the people are of the
Democratic ideology and rest of the people identify themselves as the independents or the
liberals (Yahya, 2017). Therefore, it must be said that these liberals have the tendency to print
the news to manipulate the common people against the conservative powers (Belko, 2019). It is
quite evident from the collected data that the reviews on the current US President Donald after
his election were negative to a rate of 62% almost. Only 5% assessments about him came to be
positive.
Thus, the media representations of the various issues like property rights and abortion
rights have been done with the liberal viewpoints. The biasness of the media is more towards the
progressive liberals than the republicans to this discourse (Yelegaonkar, 2014). Thus, it must be
said that the conservative politicians in the media newsrooms are treated like the alien species.
Thus, they have a very little role to play in keeping alive the democracy of the country. The
newsrooms and media houses play a huge role while they diminish the activities of the
conservative leaders within the country.

In the concluding part of the paper, it must be said that the media biasness in the media
houses of the United States has glared up to be a huge issue. The media personnel have taken the
strict positions so they can make the critique of the conservative leaders. Their views are directed
towards the negative criticism of these people. Therefore, this biasness of the media houses has
always jeopardized the overall democratic patterns of the United States. Their stance on the
political scenario must be reevaluated because it might mislead the common people of the
country by manipulative steps.
