Introduction
The case study emphasizes on the incident related to killing. In this case Roy
Abanales Tabalbag killed his girlfriend Geecy Rebucas. The reason of murder is related with
the fact that he found her with her lover Amin Sthapit. His girlfriend was involved in a sexual
act with her lover and when Roy saw he was disappointed. So, in this paper, the emphasis
will be given on the murder case by considering the ethical theories. According to the case
study it can be analyzed that accused was guilty for manslaughter. In anger, Roy took the
step which is not ethical according to law.
This paper will elaborate different theories which will help to evaluate the overall
murder case. Ethical theories will be explained in this report by focusing on the murder case.

Utilitarianism theory
Utilitarianism is related with the best action and the best act is the one in which the
utility is maximized. It is a kind of consequentialism which tells that the result of any act is
related to the standard of right and wrong. According to this theory, the feelings are
showcased by the actions which take place by an individual. The feelings are also linked
with the activities which are done by a person. If the focus is given on the concept related to
consequentialism it is seen that ego is one of the important factor that should be considered.
Also in this theory equality is the major factor on which emphasis is given. Equality is the
major component which is used in the theory of consequentialism so that proper care can be
maintained (West, 2018).

The utility is related to the action which takes place and it consists of both the positive
and negative factor. By emphasizing on the given case it is seen that Roy was angry of the
step which was taken by his girlfriend. When he saw his girlfriend then it is seen that she was
involved in the sexual act with her lover. Behaviour is related to the act the person conducts.
It is essential for an individual to focus on controlling the anger so that unethical act does not
take place. When a person is not able to take corrective actions then adverse impact is
analyzed in the day to day actions. So, it is vital for an individual to manage the anger so that
in right direction the actions can take place. When an individual is angry then it is not
possible to take corrective measures or the actions.
It can be seen that anger is related to the overall behavior of the individual. It is
essential for an individual to control the situation when the person is angry so those acts
which are ethical can take place in a proper manner. Ethics are also important in maintaining
the relations. If ethical actions are considered than it can be easy for an individual to
complete the activities (Kehoe, 2015).
When a person is engaged in the action which is not ethically right in the eyes of law
then they have to face law. The problems will take place and also penalties will be imposed.
The action which was taken by Roy is not considered as an ethical act. Roy murdered Amin
Sthapit because they are engaged in sexual which made him angry. He was not able to control
the anger. Work programs are also considered which focuses on controlling the overall acts
of the society.
Deontology Theory
This theory gives emphasis on the theory which helps to judge the acts conducted by
an individual. This theory is related to the self- confidence of a person and also it is essential
to consider proper rules so that acts can be completed in a right way. This theory is concerned
with the duty of ethics that should be followed at the time of judging the action or the moral
obligation (Lazar, 2017). Morality is also the factor which is considered and focuses on the
overall obligations and theories (Everett, Pizarro & Crockett, 2016). It can be evaluated that
the overall morality is related with the act which is dependent on the specific circumstance.
Also there are many aspects like religious laws and also set of rules for professional values
(Bowen, 2017).

By focusing on the case, it is seen that Tabalbag was engaged in the activity which
was not right according to ethics and the person is not respected in the society who is
indulged in these types of actions. There are many procedures and policies which is essential
so that proper ethical concepts can be considered and this help to reduce the negative impact.
The unethical act which takes place is not supported by this theory. It can be evaluated that
people are penalized who take unethical actions (Rahanu, Georgiadou, Siakas & Ross, 2017).
Virtue theory
This concept helps to maintain proper coverage of an individual and also proper
differentiation is made among the people. The power is also related to the thinking pattern
and also the habits of a person which give the final outcome of the action (Solum, 2018). The
expression is also one of the components that are important and considered in this theory. The
acts which take place depend on the expression of an individual (Bright, Winn & Kanov,
2014).
The attitude and the behavior of person are seen and it is evaluated that he conducts
the act in a proper manner with other individuals. There are various theories on which
emphasis should be given so that the person can behave in a positive manner. The wrong step
was taken by the girlfriend and it is not ethical and the accused lose his control (Carr, 2016).
Contract theory
To live in a society it is important to have positive actions that should be conducted. If
an individual is indulged in an unethical act then it can give adverse effect on the overall
activities. Positive outcomes are also taken into consideration so that ethics can be taken into
consideration in an effective manner. The ethical concepts also give emphasis on managing
the relations. If a person conducts a wrong act then they have to face the punishment
according to the law (Fried, 2015). There are various connections in the contract theory and
the rules are considered to live a good life. If a positive environment is there then it can help
the people to behave in an ethical manner and also direction is important to be given.
The motive behind any action is to safeguard the individuals so that peace and
harmony can be maintained. Also, the wrong impact is seen on the individual when he has
taken the wrong step which is not ethical in the society and also in the law. Tabalbag was

engaged in the wrong act and it is essential to have patience so that acts can be conducted in
an ethical way and also adverse effect on the other individual.
Conclusion
It is concluded that ethics are concerned with the theories and it is essential to
consider the policies before taking any action. If policies are considered then people will not
able to conduct the unethical act as it can give negative impact on the other person. In this,
the discussion is made on the different theories by focusing on the murder case. So, it is
concluded that emphasis should be given on ethical theories so that ethical actions can take
place.
