Question No 1
Build a safety net ecosystem for vulnerable and orphaned children, and prevention of abuse
against girls?
Answer to Question No 1
The Amitofo Care Center has a large number of different branches around the globe1. The
organization which is an Non Government run enterprise basically engages in protection of the
child and women rights and also raises the orphans in the large number of homes owned by
them. The main principles of ACC are based on the African culture, Chinese culture and the
Buddhist philosophy which are provided to the orphans in times of need. The following is
considered to be a remarkable and unique characteristic of the ACC. The management of the
company has worked hard to meet its goals and provide special care to the abused and socially
backward class of people. The caring program launched by the organization was able to make
considerable progress after ten years of enormous work2. The program benefitted a large number
of children and women alike. The philanthropic footprints of the company have been established
throughout the whole of Africa especially in countries like Zambia and South Africa. In Africa

the children are mostly vulnerable to AIDS and also the different types of the deadly diseases
that damage the lives of these people. The ACC has been trying to provide these children a safe
home and a safe life for the future. In Africa, the children live in ACC centers that function as
“children’s villages”. A group of 12 to 16 children are put together like a family, with one nanny,
one “mummy”, and one childcare teacher who all live under one roof. Twelve of these families
form a “village”, allowing the children to experience socialization and the warmth of family life.
In addition to their own traditions, the children are also exposed to Chinese culture and
Buddhist philosophy. ACC’s website, iacchq.org, emphasizes that none of the orphans are
expected to take up Buddhism, as the organization respects religious freedom; the children are
expected to choose their own religion as they enter adulthood. The company has established a
violence prevention and victim support center for the risked orphaned girls and also echoes the
concerns of the girls who have experienced great tragedies in their young lives-voices that
generally remain unheard3. The main goal of the violence prevention of ACC is to ensure the
protection of vulnerable orphaned girls from all forms of violence and to provide support and
assistance when violence has occurred. Primary roles of the Center will be advocacy, education
and intervention. Violence occurs in the home, schools, and community, workplace and care
institutions. We will focus on the home, school and community. We will identify relevant
stakeholders who have a vested interest in preventing violence to girls and invite them to
participate in a Violence Prevention Community Coalition. We will work closely with these
stakeholders to develop partnerships for long-term solutions. The violence against girls includes
