AN ANALYSIS OF THE CONSTITUTION OF U.S.1
The fundamental laws and basic rights that the Americans enjoy is because of the
constitution of the United States of America. The constitution was signed in the year 1787 in the
months of September (Hardin 51-72). It was signed by the delegates to the Constitution
Convention in Philadelphia. The first document that was used to govern the United States was
the Articles of Confederation (Maggs 397). This document was not strong enough and under it
the different states operated like separate nations. The convention that was signed in the year
1787, the delegates decided to form a stronger federal government (Page 204 of the book). At
this convention, for the first time the three separate functions of the government was formed,
these include the executive, legislative and judicial functions. This division was made to make
sure that no wing of the government was over-burdened with work. Along with the division of
the three branches of the government, the system of checks and b lances was also developed in
the same convention (Andrias 419). In the year 1791, after going through 10 amendments, the
Bill of Rights was also formed. This bill safe guarded some of the basic rights that the Americans
should enjoy. This bill included the protection rights and freedoms such as freedom of religion
and speech. Till today the constitution of America have had 27 amendments (Albert 217).
The main founding fathers of the American constitution are John Adams, James Monroe,
Benjamin Franklin, Alexander Hamilton, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison and George
Washington (Green). They formation of the constitution stemmed from the belief that the
government needed to build its strength and the working of the government has to be well-
defined as was put forward in the Articles of Confederation. The majority of the constitution
deals with the functions of the various parts of the government and the role that each of these
parts play. The checks and balance were developed so that no wing of the government gets more
powerful resulting in the curbing of the voice and power of the people. The basic idea behind the
