AN ELECTRONIC PROFESSIONAL PORTFOLIO
Profile
My name is Pendora Dawo .I am a nursing student, pursuing Bachelor of Nursing course
from Western Sydney University. I have accomplished a Diploma of Human Resources
Management and Diploma of Business from Australian Business College. I also completed
my high school certificate from Fairvale High School successfully. I am very inspired by the
concept of helping needy people. This concept is the key motivation in pursuing the nursing
degree. The concept encouraged me when I volunteered in work placement for an Aged
Cared Facility before joining the nursing school. I prefer being honest and flexible at work
place. I love to listen every person especially older persons, as they need regards and support.
This tendency of listening with patience helps me to being an empathetic listener. My
friendly and supportive nature help me to improve as a human and as a nurse also. Effective
listening skills help me to reduce probabilities of misunderstandings about information. I am
highly efficient in solving problems for patients, communicating with people, and in time
management. I consider myself as a hardworking person with punctuality and enthusiasms. I
want to serve admitted people and the children medical ward and help those patients by
supporting them. I wish to complete my duty as a health worker by maintaining the Guiding
Principle of Medication management in Residential Aged-care facilities amend by
Department of Health under Australian Government. Hence, I am willing to practise in all
conscience and honourably by fulfilling compulsory guidelines and working principles as
part of a team to provide quality, patient centred care.

Critical Reflection
Description
In my current job, I administer medication to the residents. We were given to execute
three numeracy tests related to drug calculations, which were included to college tutorial
in PPE2 (Insulin) assessment. We were facing problems of passing at least one test in
drug-calculation test series and I used to make a lot of mistakes. Due to facing difficulties
in understanding of drug calculation formulae, we did not perform well. As a result, I
could not administer Insulin properly. My RN helped me to administer it properly.
Calculating the accuracy of medical dosages is an important factor of these formulae.
Feelings
I was disappointed after receiving the marks of my first two papers from my tutors. I was
so frustrated and could not believe that I got such low marks. I discussed about my fail
marks with my RN and she analysed the reasons why I could not understand the

formulae. The failed marks broke my confidence and I could not believe how I will
recover my marks for the entire academic session.
Evaluation
I could not understand the reason behind my failure so that I seek help from my RN
concerning the formula of Insulin. I also could not understand why I was unable to solve
all the problems and decode the formulae of the given drug. After listening to me
carefully, she explained details of every questions. Explanations were significant for me
to analyse and to understand the problems.
Analysis
After I explained everything to my tutor, she explained me every details associated
with problems. She explained me clearly, why I could not understand the problems and
failed to interpret the right formula. She showed me an appropriate formula and
described the way I should administer Insulin to a patient’s body in future. In addition,
she handed me a booklet that contain proper information regarding Insulin administration.
She explained me every details associated with the importance of drug calculation and
proper administration of drugs. Medication calculation is significant for drug
administration and monitoring, health status observation, route of drug administrations;
serving the patients with proper medication during the absence of doctors, better patient
assessment (Broyles et al., 2019).
Conclusion
If I could practise more and interpret the right formula during drug test without
getting confused, I would score better marks.

I will practise more and will try to evaluate every step of my preparation. I will work
harder to understand how to implement the right drug for every tests. The practise and
evaluations will help me to gain more knowledge about drugs. After my tutor’s
explanation, I understood that drug calculation methods need more accuracy during test
so in future I will take time in understanding the concepts and in preparation. The better
understanding and appropriate implementation of drugs can help to become a better nurse
in future.
