INTRODUCTION
A contemporary definition of health takes into consideration that disease and disability can
often co-exists with wellness. There are various contemporary health issues such as drug and
alcohol abuse, depression, cancer, obesity that can affect well-being and health outcome of an
individual. In this health care services are provided to enhance safety of patient and to improve
their quality of life. Present report will lay emphasis on the contemporary health issues such as
drug and alcohol abuse. It will also focus on making a business plan for substance abuse for a
detox center in London.

Substance abuse is something which one should not take lightly. It appears when an
individual is being engaged in making excessive use of the alcohol. So many people who have
faced substance abuse are ready to quit and change their behaviour. Both legal and illegal drugs
can change a way related to how mind works. Alcohol can affect the working of brain severely.
Excessive drinking can lead to increase in number of accidents and injury. Substance abuse is
basically making use of illegal drugs in way it has been prescribed or intended. Many drugs
which are abused are also addictive (Lewis, (2017). Drug abuse can be seen in childhood and can
be continued throughout till the adulthood. People who are involved in abusing drugs can take
them initially out of curiosity or because of peer pressure.
Making excessive use of alcohol and drugs can affect the functioning of various body parts
severely and also it can damage the working of brain. There are various common signs and
symptoms of drug abuse. Substance abuse can also cause issues in relationship. The common
symptoms that can be seen during the time of this contemporary issue includes deterioration in
personal relationships, difficulty in handling of jobs, risky sexual behaviour, issues in finance,
making use of higher dose to get the same effect. There are also various other signs and
symptoms that can be seen while abusing alcohol and drugs. This can lead to drug intoxication.
In this the issues such as restlessness, changes in mood, impaired vision, nausea and impaired
judgment and memory can be seen. The mental status of an individual can also be changed
because of the drug abuse (Harper & Duke, (2017).
There are also other severe symptoms that can indicate a life threatening situation in an
individual. It includes being in danger to oneself and others and also there can be seen suicidal
