INTRODUCTION
Tourism refers to trips that include travelling of natives to other destinations. Every year
around millions of people visit other countries. There is various tourist destination in the world.
The social, cultural and physical characteristic of those destinations varies a lot. Tourism is the
largest foreign exchange generator. (Swarbrooke, and Page, 2012) Potentially, tourism provides
great advantage both for destination nation and traveller. Travel and tourism always plays a key
role in economy of nation. It provides the merits of income, employment, growth, cultural and
foreign exchange, innovation, infrastructural development to destination country. It overall
contributes to nations development by improving living conditions of nationals. TripAdvisor is
one of the largest travel site which provides services to millions of people around the world.
Virgin Holidays Limited is also one of the successful tour operator company. They really make
tourist visit pleasurable and memorable.
Task 1
1.1 – Analysis of main tourist destinations and generators of the world
UK is the first choice of tourist because of its cultural, natural and heritage attractions
which bring great amount of income for UK. France and Germany are most popular destination
for visiting. Germany is one of the biggest tourist generator in terms of numbers and income
generation. Tourism helps destination country in many ways. (Telfer, and Sharpley, 2015). It
create awareness of culture as visitors get to know about new culture and spread positive word of
mouth. Also it improves living standard of people by generating employment and income.
Popular destination of UK is London, Edinburgh, Liverpool etc. since 2012, tourism is becoming
fastest growing sector in UK which generate great amount of foreign exchange and bring
employment in country. (Dodds, Graci, and Holmes, 2010). Also it has been seen that repeat
holiday tourist stay more days in UK than first time visitors. Tourism overall impact economy of
a nation. The following table shows the main tourist destination in terms of numbers and income

TripAdvisor is providing services to numerous people around the world. UK is
following different trends to attract different travellers from the world. UK is considered as one
of the popular place of destination. (Assaker, Vinzi, and O’Connor, 2011.)United states, France,
Germany and United kingdom are playing key role in tourism industry. The tourism industry will
definitely bring benefits to destination country. Number of tourist are increasing day by day in
UK due to its popular historical monuments, educational institutes and number of different
business locations. The tourism increasing jobs in UK and raise standard of living in the
country. Furthermore, it can be said that tourism industry is in favour of UK as consumer have
good spending power and thus employment will be generated. Thus, there will be significant
growth in tourism industry in UK. IN recent times, Olympics and other sporting activities also
plays a handy role in growth of tourism industry. (Duarte Alonso, and Liu, 2010.) London,
Edinburgh, Liverpool are usually favourite location of visitors and famous for its different
places. Also tourism is promoted by UK through advertisements which plays significant role in
growth of the industry. The availability of restaurants, hostels and facilities provided by trip site
will definitely add value. The following statistics shows different cities in UK and number of
visitors in those places -

From the above given table this has been summarised that London is one of the most famous
destination which is experiencing good number of visitors every year and hence earning good
wealth through tourism.

2.1 Cultural, social and physical features of tourist’s destinations
Tourism is a type of industry which has non end, there are lots of opportunities available
with TripAdvisor to expand their businesses at various locations. London has been taken as one
of the destination which is mostly visited by tourists, due to its historical monuments,
educational institutes and infrastructure of the city. The impact of tourism industry can be both
positive and negative. Tourism industry also adds value for other industries such as construction,
restaurant industry and transportation services. (Sharpley, and Telfer, 2014.) There are various
negative effects of tourism such as pollution and exploitation of business opportunities. The two
destinations are selected and comparison are done between them as why people prefer London
and India for spending their holidays.

better than those of India and that plays a key role in growth of tourism industry. India's
government now giving emphasis on infrastructural facilities and that might be future trend of
the industry. Not only infrastructure, India is way behind in terms of exploitation of resources
available and creation of employment opportunities. This all are reason why India is not growing
in tourism industry (Kozak and Martin, 2012). Taj Mahal is the most visited place in India and
management of such places are must needed for Indian government. Also culture, heritage, and
most popularly diversified religion is what makes India as a most suitable destination to visit.
The standard of living and employment opportunities will definitely raise by growth in tourism
industry. The standard of living will be improved which in turn remove poverty which is serious
reason why these countries are not developed today. TripAdvisor has opportunity to seek
advantages in such country's tourism industry and grab the same. These countries will be going
will be superpower in future so considerations need to be given to such countries. The
technological innovation and emerge of business opportunities, Different class of people with
different religion, historical places, natural environment are key things.

follows-
Economic Impact – the economic impact will definitely an issue that affect popularity of
tourism. The economic activities of countries will always influence tourist visiting host country
for example- increasing inflating can be one of the negative impact.
Inclusive packages – packages provide by companies like virgin holiday limited are
affecting tourists visiting nation. If cost will be more then travellers may hesitate to choose such
destination (Issues that affect popularity of tourist destinations. 2017). The overall package
consists of restaurants and visiting locations in the hosting country as well as other facilities
needed to different tourist as per their age, culture and religion.
Terrorist attack – terrorist attack can be cause for impact tourist activities. As mentioned
earlier Pakistan's tourism is greatly influenced by terrorist attacks. Tourist can also fear to visit
such countries as they always look for safety and protection.
Heavy investment – the investment done in infrastructural building and promotional
activities will also impact tourism in a great way. Also maintenance of historical monuments and
natural beauty is vital. Investment in some crucial areas such as health and education by govt.
will promote living standards, which in turn attract tourism.
In spite of having large number of tourist, the UK government has managed all these
activities quite well. Also safety facility has been delivered to different visitors which attracts
more people in the country.
4.2 Potential for responsible tourism to enhance host community at tourist destinations
The negative impact of tourism is needed to be reduced to promote tourism like
exploitation of business opportunity, excessive use of natural resources. However, tourism has
more positive impact than negative impact. Role of responsible tourism is creation of income for
the nation by purchase of different products and services of business, also employment
opportunities need to be created (Hinch, and Higham, 2011). It helps in reduction of poverty and
raise standard of living of people of country. The responsible tourism results in safeguarding
tourist from any danger and maintain their dignity of nation. Tourist are always respectable and

issues such as child abuse and drugs are need to be banned. Creating positive image in the mind
of tourist results in spread of positive word of mouth. There are several organisations such as
ECPAT which gives direction to tour operators like Virgin holidays limited. If harmful impact is
reduced, the nation will definitely get maximum benefit. Several heritage organisations are
funded through tourism industry to preserve natural, and cultural resources. Virgin holidays
limited members should also look forwards with any of the issues arising for tourist. Thus,
tourism industry will grow and contribute effectively in creation of national income.
CONCLUSION
By this report, it has been concluded that tourism plays a vital role for any nation in
income and employment generation. This in turn result in raising standard of living. UK is major
tourism receiving country and cities like London is what makes them recognizable. The scope of
tourism will definitely increase in future course of time. Companies like TripAdvisor and Virgin
holidays Limited should give emphasis to developing countries like India to explore the
opportunities available and grab them. UK tourism has been popular over the year and thus have
been one of the best place to visit. Issues such as lack of infrastructural facilities, terrorist
attacks, lack of promotional activities will surely impact tourism in a great way. Responsible
tourism is key for growth in such areas. The government should have to be more curious for
promotion of tourism industry so that it will benefit nation.
