2 ANALYSIS OF CORPORATE BREACHES Introduction Rise of technology has led to the implementation of the innovative methods in the businesses but it has also increased the threat of data breaches. The effect of data breaches on the companies are different and mainly the sensitive data of the companies are stolen. This report intends to analyse three corporate breaches and determine how the response team tackled the incidents. Discussion Description of breaches Yahoo data breach has been considered to be the biggest breach of data in the present business sector. The data breach released the email addresses, the telephone numbers, date of birth, and the authentic names of over 500 million users from Yahoo company database (Trautman & Ormerod, 2016). The majority of involved passwords has been hashed with the help of the robust bcrypt algorithm. eBay company was impacted by a data breach that led to the exposure of addresses, names, encrypted passwords and dates of birth of over 145 million users (Sidhu, Sakhuja & Zhou, 2016). It was claimed by the company that the hackers got into network of Yahoo company through the credentials of three corporate employees and gained access in the database. Equifax faced a data breach that led to revealing of personal information of over 143 million consumers, and the exposure of credit card data of 209,000 (Trautman & Ormerod, 2016).
3 ANALYSIS OF CORPORATE BREACHES Response to breaches In the case of Yahoo breach, the top management of the company was informed by the cybersecurity team by notifying through mail after implementing the security protocols for ensuring that the breach does not lead to the loss of huge amount of data (Trautman & Ormerod, 2016). In the case of EBay Company, the cybersecurity team blocked all access to the database and notified the top management regarding the block of access to the company and implemented the strong security protocols so that no major damage is done to the database of the organisation (Sidhu, Sakhuja & Zhou, 2016). Equifax cybersecurity held a meeting right after the company was impacted by the breach and then notified them of the main steps that are being taken for ensuring that no major data is gained by the hackers (Trautman & Ormerod, 2016). The credentials of all the employees and the top management of the company was blocked and access was stopped. Conclusion Therefore, it could be concluded that the modern technologies faces the threat of data breach that leads to the loss of sensitive data. The cybersecurity teams of the company implemented the proper mechanisms for ensuring that all the organisational employees have proper idea regarding the breaches.
