Introduction to the emerging digital transformations
Two of the emerging technologies that are considered in this context are IoT and Cloud
computing.
IoT:
The internet of things refers to network of devices where these devices are connected to
internet and provide context to communicate with these devices through internet. Some of the
most popular devices that are part of IoT network are security sensors, surveillance cameras,
smartphones, wearable devices for example smartwatches, and along with these devices even
household appliances for example washing machines, refrigerators are included as well.
However, it is important to identify that nay devices that are capable of communicating and
transferring data over the network even if there is no direct human interaction, then those
devices are also included in IoT network as well.
Cloud computing:
Cloud computing is to deliver computing services through internet. These computing services
include servers, storage, databases, networking, software, analytics, and intelligence as well.
This is a revolutionary invention which has made computing advanced and affordable. In
cloud computing organizations do not need to invest in expensive hardware, servers, and
storage as these services are provided by cloud service provider. Therefore, advanced
computing is being provided to organizations including SMES as well.
These services are classified into three main categories for example software as a service or
SaaS, platform as a service or PaaS and infrastructure as a service or IaaS. In these services,
different strategies are considered for providing cloud services as well. In SaaS, only access
to software are provided where data of these software is stored in cloud provided by the cloud
service provider. In PaaS, platform is provided for designing and deploying application in

cloud for ensuing easy access to these applications anytime and from anywhere according to
the requirements. However, in IaaS, infrastructure is provided that is required for designing
and deploying applications in cloud for enhanced access to these applications as well.
Explanation of the differences with respect to IoT and Cloud Computing for business
services
IoT and cloud are two important technologies that are revolutionizing business and providing
context to different business organizations to design innovative solutions for enhancing
business process as well.
In order to identify how applications of these technologies differs, it is important to analyse
how these technologies works.
This disruptive technology is empowering consumers as it has ensured greater control for
consumers of their household systems and appliances while providing data to organizations
which has provided them context to obtain greater insight regarding critical areas of business
interest and helping them in designing innovative products, solutions while providing them
new business opportunities as well.
IoT will impact various industries and business. It includes manufacturing, logistics and
healthcare as well. Application of IoT in business context is becoming significantly popular
for its effectiveness in enhancing business process. According to a report of Gartner, there are
already 3.1. billion IoT devices as of now and this number is estimated to become 7.6 billion
by 2020.
IoT is playing an important role in revolutionizing business. According to a Forbes report that
analyses impact of IoT on business. It analyses few areas where the application of IoT is
becoming popular.

Digital transformation along with IoT is playing a significant role in the fitness industry and
it has been remarkable as well. Wearable devices which includes built-in sensors are capable
of collecting data regarding physical activities and provide information like amount of
distance travelled, amount of calories burned and also capable of analysing sleep patterns
along with detailed analyses and insight for ensuing continuous healthcare. IoT applications
analyses data that is collected from connected devices, and along with this, the sophisticated
tools that are available in the cloud helps in visualizing, exploring and designing complex
data analytics. In order to design complex and advanced IoT applications where several
devices are included, it is required to ensure that information regarding the state of the
devices are obtained and communicated with the application components while ensuring
proper communication frequency for leveraging those devices. Along with this, it is
important to ensure that identity and access that is provided between devices and applications
are properly secured as well.
In terms of application of cloud computing in business, the main application of this
technology is that it provides large amount of storage to store data. In this modern era of
technology and digitalization, it is important to ensure that they collect information regarding
their business, services and their consumers as well. This provides them context to analyse
data and obtain insight for enhancing business process.
Therefore, while analysing difference in terms of applications of these two technologies, it is
important to identify that for proper application of IoT in business, cloud computer is
required. While IoT devices collects data through its sensors and send this data through
internet, it is required to store this data for analysis. However, these data is so large in
volume, that it is not possible to store this data in traditional storage, for this large amount of
storage is required which is provided by cloud computing. Therefore, in order to ensure
proper application of IoT, application of cloud computing is also required. Although, these

two technologies are considered for different applications for example IoT is considered for
collecting data, cloud computing is considered for storing data which provides context to

Explanation of Case studies
It describes two case studies on how business organizations have been successful in using
these transformations for their business strategic decision-making process. It has considered
one IoT case study and one cloud computing case study in this context.
Amazon, which is one of the most popular companies, requires an effective supply chain
logistics for its business. The type of amazon business is such that it requires to manage
millions of products and these products are different in terms of shapes, weights and sizes as
well. There is AI systems which analyse orders for prime members and according to that
robots do required things for delivering an order. It allows workers to manage other aspects
for example order packaging or restocking shelves. Therefore, robots and human are working
together through application of IoT. It is easier to decide which items are in demand and
which items are not so popular in terms of consumer requirements. Therefore, it enhances
decision-making process as well.
Netflix, which is one of the most famous online streaming service provider has revolutionized
application of cloud computing for enhancing its decision-making process. it collects
information regarding its customers for example preference, average watch time, language,
place and other important information about its customers and analyses these data to obtain
insight to enhance its decision-making process. It allows them to personalize content and
recommend content according to preferences of customers. Therefore, it is easier to identify
which customers require which features and helps them to decide which features should be
included in the service provided for enhancing consumer satisfaction as well.

It provides a comparative study which provides comprehensive idea regarding how the
decision-making process have changed based Cloud Computing and IoT in terms of the
advantages of the technology, business impacts and the provided service as well.
The process of decision making has significantly for integration of IoT and cloud computing
with business process of these two organizations considered in this context.
Previously amazon employees required to move around floors of warehouse for scanning
each product. However, introduction of Wi-Fi connected robots has improved this process
and it is easier to identify products through scanning of barcode. therefore, as already
described It is easier to decide which items are in demand and which items are not so popular
which is provided in terms of consumer requirements. Therefore, it enhances decision-
making process as well.
