In the conventional greenhouse system, it requires proper climate conditions and it needs to
be regulated for growing plants. However, it is not possible to accurately regulate and
monitor these climate conditions in a greenhouse system according to requirements of plants.
Therefore, a smart system is required that is capable of automating this process. Therefore, in
this article, the authors have designed an IoT based smart monitoring system that has the
capability to monitor the internal conditions of a greenhouse system. It collects climate
information inside a greenhouse and then that information is stored in a database for
processing. it helps in remotely monitor climate conditions in a greenhouse, therefore,
providing flexibility in greenhouse design. an android application has been designed for
displaying these data in short-range and for this Bluetooth technology has been considered.
the system that is designed has the capability to control temperature and humidity along with
light and moisture content in the soil.
These data are collected by sensors and provided to the IoT system which helps it in
controlling these parameters as already described in this context. in the greenhouse system,
there are heaters and coolers for controlling temperature within a greenhouse along with
sprayers, bulbs and water pump and all of this equipment are controlled according to sensor
data.
The system that has been proposed in this article, therefore, does not require any manual
effort for monitoring temperature, humidity, moisture in soil and actions according to that.
the database that stores data provides context to analyse sensor data and create a report as
well. in order to manage these features, a simple algorithm has been designed and this IoT
monitoring system works according to this algorithm. in order to make this system energy

efficient, the authors have considered microcontroller and ATmega328 microcontroller has
been applied for designing this system. apart from being energy efficient, the microcontroller
is cost-efficient as well. microcontroller makes system response faster for its easy integration
with sensors. in order to measure climate condition, it is required to measure the moisture of
soil, the temperature of environment and humidity as well. in order to implement this, three
sensors are implemented along with an LDR for measuring daylight conditions which are
required to ensure that measurements are effective and efficient as well.
Although there is a various system that offers a similar feature it is more efficient in terms of
precision and stability. this system applies a GSM-GPRS module which makes it easier to
send data over the internet. if compared to ZigBee technology and RF module then this
system provides better reliability, solved and efficiency as well. however, this system needs
more features for providing a complete approach to greenhouse farming. for example, some
features like the determination of texture in soil, applying fertilizer, measuring conditions of
plants and determining the type of plants that will be suitable according to the type of soil are
some of the important features that are required to be integrated with this system and it will
ensure that design and implementation of this system are effective and efficient as well.

The greenhouse is a specially designed structure that helps in growing plants. In order to
grow plants inside a Greenhouse, it is important to monitor and control the climate inside a
Greenhouse properly. It includes monitoring of temperature and humidity in control with
only so that it doesn't affect those plants inside a Greenhouse. In most of the cases, this is
done through manual effort. And this process is not only time consuming but its effects.
