ANALYSIS OF SEVER MONITORING TOOLS
1
Executive summary
The report has analysed three existing server-monitoring tools that GCM has
already deployed for monitoring servers in the organization. Along with the
comparison between these existing tools, three emerging tools for system
management are analysed in this context. In accordance to this comparison, it is
identified that some tool provides better facility compared to other tools
considered in this context. However if analysed properly, it is identified that
Zabbix provides better facility in terms of most of the parameters and it is also
free. It offers enhanced design and interface for interacting with this system,
provides support for web-based configuration, provides extensive range of
monitoring templates along with an enhanced community support of 80,000
members, which makes it the preferred system management tool and also
recommended in this context.

ANALYSIS OF SEVER MONITORING TOOLS

Introduction
Global Cure Mart (GCM) is a successful company, which is running its
business successfully from last two decades. System Management executes
every aspect of IT administration at GCM and this is one of the core issues that
GCM needs to consider as this affects their day-to-day operations. Therefore, IT
Manager of GCM has hired a System Admin, for suggesting them the right
emerging tools that are capable of executing these daily operations effectively
and efficiently. This include comparison of these emerging tools for identifying
the most effective system management tool. GCM wants a detailed comparison
between three of these tools for a comprehensive idea regarding the quality of
these tools, which will help them to make effective decision regarding the
requirement of selection of the new tool from the recommended tools. As of now,
GCM is using open source monitoring tools like monit, cacti, openNMS, Icinga,
etc. for system management for executing different server services. However, all
of these tools are open source monitoring tools and therefore GCM wants to
deploy new and emerging tool for ensuring that the system management is
effective and efficient.
Comparison of three existing server management systems for
administration at GCM
In order to compare the existing sever management tools, it is important to
define the parameters that are considered for this comparison and these
parameters are the followings [1]:
IP SLA reports: It refers to the method to monitor and report network
performance. IP SLA ensures that the network traffic is generate and
actively monitored continuously across the network [2]
Logical grouping: Logical grouping is the process of groping network
devices logically so that it is easier to monitor those devices effectively [3]
Trend prediction: Trend prediction is the process of predicting the traffic of
the network and this is provided after analysing the network traffic [3]
