Analysis of the poem Robert frost (1874-1963) Fire And Ice.
The poem ‘’Fire And Ice “ has key meaning which is entirely the end of the world whereby it has
used fire which indicates the emotion of desire and the use of ice which indicates hate that is
found in different people (Wulandari, 34).I have used this poem because it’s one of the most
well-known and anthologized poems .The poem is well structured whereby it is in nine line
stanza which arrows in the last two lines .In addition, the overall meter illustrated by the poem is
majorly the mix of the iambic tetrameter and diameter.
The poem introduces the fate of the world. The author is wondering on how the world can be
destroyed by the fire and ice. The people in the world are in debate that the end is nigh. The
narrator of this poem indicates how fire will signify the end. The end is analyzed through the
human desire and hate which are common virtues in the world (Wulandari, 63). Also, the
narrator also considers how ice would be equally destructive at the end. Robert is not clear on
what will cause the end of the world but he significantly indicates that the end will constitute the
options of fire and ice.

Robert has used a lot of sense which we get from different people on how they react to different
issues. The importance is all about effects of destruction .The fire is the desire which in real
sense it is the passion people have .The ice on other hand summarizes the hate which is reason.
Therefore, through the use of this figurative language the poem indicates that those who moves
away from the positive life by justifying through fake reasons then they are termed as the worst
offenders in the poem. Through this they end up in a lake of ice. The other issue which is of
importance is the way the end of the world is interpreted by different people in the world.
Everyone knows that the world will end but no one is sure how it will end. Both fire and ice are
linked to the idea of human domain whereby desire has been linked with the fire and hate linked
with ice. Both desire and hate are believed as the causes of world’s demise (Roberts, Robert,
Darlene, 98).
