MAIN BODY
Various ways to motivate employees within Sainsbury grocery store
Motivation is defined to as that process of inspiring and enabling employees to do various
activities so that they could achieve their targets in more effective manner which is stated as per
Alias, Abbaa and Nordin, (2016). If company is making their efforts in motivating employees
then it could be helping its employees and organisations in better way to develop with increasing
productivity and performance. Motivation is that force which is helping employee or individual
to achieve their goal and targets which is been set by company or self. There are basically two
sources of motivation which help employee to get their work done namely intrinsic and extrinsic.
Both these sources are enabling individual to achieve and fulfil their targets intrinsic is the force
which is coming from within employee. While on the other hand Bertrand and Hughes, (2017)
included that extrinsic motivation could be defined to as that which is external source that drive
the instinct of employee to work as per set targets like that of increments, bonus and
compensation which organisation is providing to its employee.
Various ways in which employees get motivate should be known to all employers so that
they are inspiring their subordinates to achieve targets of organisation. Communication with
them all in better way is the best way out to get themselves motivated as with this they could be
able to resolve all their issues. With the help of communication employers would be telling all
changes which senior level management is going to take decisions so that their subordinates are
having knowledge about policy of company. Bloom, Liang and Ying, (2014) included that if all
changes which management is making into policy or procedures of company must be correctly
communicated. It is very much important on part of employee that they are freely discussing all
their issues, problems and conflicts with managers who would then be responsible in resolving
them.
The second way out of motivating employees is that of empowering them so that they are
working as per their ability and knowledge. Brammer, He and Mellahi, (2015) said that if
employees are set free to work in way which they like then it is good method of motivation. As
they would be having many ideas, suggestions and techniques of improving their own problems
and working according to their own methods as well. By giving employees authority in making
their own decisions like in providing good service to customers and then resolving client issues.
If company is giving employees good amount of incentives then this would be like providing
Document Page
motivation to them. Motivation is playing essential role in keeping their best employees as they
would be experiencing lower amount of employee turnover.
Other than these stated above Chughtai and Lateef, (2015) also included as giving
employees opportunities in advancements or allow them to grow in company so that employees
get self-motivated. While if employees are not finding that there are any kinds of opportunity to
work or grow into company then they would not is feeling motivated. Grooming all young and
talented employees who are having both skills and knowledge regarding working should be
given ample amount of opportunity to work in better way. While if manager is settling
themselves as an example in doing better work and behaving in manner they are leading the team
would itself be way of motivating employees. Then managers of company need to try all type of
motivational theories which is helping them to analysis impact of work performance of employee
and that of organisation as whole.
Impact of motivation on performance of employee
According to Cooper and Barton, (2016) it was noted that all what they are doing like
that of implementing policies, procedures and methods related to company would be special
source of motivation on all employees. Motivation is that force which is enabling individual
employees in formulating planning and setting out of procedures related to their own targets and
objectives. Motivated employee is always enthusiastic, empowered and productive in all aspect
of their target achievement. But if employee is not been motivated then they would not been able
to perform all their task in efficient and effective manner. It is not necessary that motivation
would be having positive impact on employee and their performance but they also sometimes
have negative impact. However, having positive effect on employees of motivation is generally
been regarded which is higher than any negative impact.
Curado, Henriques and Ribeiro, (2015) said that increase in engagement of employee
within company is majorly the one which is main and most effective impact of motivation.
Employee are regarded to as most essential part of business if organisation want to operate
without any kind of interruption then it is required on part of company that they are involving
employees. This type of engagement of employee would not been able to replace by any other
thing so it becomes utmost essential for a firm to include ideas and suggestions of their
employees. Other than this there are also some demotivating factors which are affecting workers
in negative sense. All decision which company is taking on the part of employees like that
Document Page
related to them should be first conveyed to them or their suggestions and ideas must be taken and
then company should be taking all decisions. Dennehy and Sammon, (2015) included that for
company it is required to take all important decisions considering employees and their welfare
which is thus helping them to get them all motivated. Productivity of company is affected
majorly due to their increased level of motivation which is affected by various factors.
The employee who is motivated would also be satisfied with the job or work which they
are doing which shows that they are happy and would not be leaving their company. Higher
amount of employee turnover ratio lower is the amount of job satisfaction among employees of
company. Flick, (2015) included that this is very common factor that is leading to increased
amount of employee retention for the company. It becomes impossible for company to retain
their employees if they are not making any efforts in motivating them. As both motivation and
retention are directly linked to each other higher the motivation more would be retention of
employees within company. Thus all these would be leading to achieving goals and objectives of
organisation which is set by management to be attained by all employees. There are many factors
which would be leading to job satisfaction and then increased in performance of employee.
However, Geraedts, van Mechelen and Anema, (2014) included that it is not easy for any
management to satisfy or motivate each and every employee of their organisation. It is really an
impossible task for management to listen to all employees and try to resolve each of them issues
which lead to dissatisfaction among employees and their leaving of job. But certainly company
could make easy for all employees to activate their involvement skills within decision making
process of organisation.
Effect of motivation on productivity of business of Sainsbury store
On the overall bases motivation of all employees would ultimately leading to increased
profits, sales, revenue and productivity of business. Huge firms like that of Sainsbury which are
having many employees working under them are proof of effective and efficient management
and administration of company. Without motivated employee company could not grow or gain
its share from market thus it becomes essential on part of organisation that they are motivating
their employees. Goleman, (2017) introduced that productivity of business is also measured in
terms of amount of number of turnover of its employees within period of time. All theories of
motivation should be applied by management so that it is easy for them to analysis what its
impact on employees is.

All the basic needs of employee which is defined into need hierarchy theory of Maslow
are those related to content theory of motivation and highlighting what is specific factor that is
impacting or motivating employee with firm. All employees are having various factors which are
effecting them and each of them is different from one another in way of attainment of goals of
firm. Shahzadi, and Khanam, (2014) included that on most important and major terms incentive
motivation is one which talk about rewards like that of bonus or compensation given to them. If
employee is doing additional amount of work then it is important for them to get extra for their
work which is also kind of impact of motivation. It becomes easy for company to achieve sales
and profits targets which they are planning to attain with help of employees.
So motivated employee is always ready to work for achievement of organisational goals
also they are to get leadership opportunities. This is kind of substitute for employees that if they
are not getting monetary benefits like that of incentive then there is option of giving employee
leadership opportunities. With the help of these kinds of opportunities then it would be easy for
them to retain employees who are motivated with amount of chance they are given to grow and
develop. As per Jayaweera, (2015) it is said that promoting employees and giving new type of
responsibilities or role which they are doing earlier is good option to bring out talent and
productivity from them. It is clear that getting recognition from seniors for the amount of good
work done by them this is the best way to inspire all employees so they are indulging in doing
efficient amount of work. Other than this performance of company is also increased and
improved with help of meeting expectation of employee.
As Lazaroiu, (2015) said that no employee would like to their work without getting
appreciated for amount of good work which is done by them. As they would always be expecting
something in return of work if they are putting their efforts for achieving targets of company.
The level of managerial standards within organisation would also be effecting motivation and
then productivity of company. All duties which are related to employees must be in alignment
with description of job that they are supposed to do. Thus if company is offering good amount of
pay to their employees and giving them extra amount of benefits then they would be feeling that
organisation within which they are working is somewhat committed towards workers.
There are many surveys and research which is conducted to analysis the effect of
motivation onto productivity of business. This shows that the company which is having more
employees who are motivated would be having higher amount of profits as compared to that
Document Page
which is not having. So it is vital for company to keep their employees highly motivated which
would be helping them only in later terms. Nyberg, Pieper and Trevor, (2016) said that personal
growth and achievement of employees would be playing essential role in motivating them and
this in profits of company. Sales and profits targets that management is setting or planning in
starting of financial year need to be successfully fulfilled which is only done when employees
are motivated or satisfied with amount incentive which is been provided to them.
All individuals are motivated according to need and want which they are having and this
may be difficult for them to analysis or extract from working environment. Thus it is delivering
extent of power, anticipation and self-confidence which is all coming from level of motivation
which they are having. Faisal Ahammad, Malul and Shoham, (2015) stated that employee is
playing major role in organisation and its development but many of them due to demotivation are
not able to perform as per their level of productivity. Satisfaction is that means which is helping
company and employee in achieving their objectives or goals which they have set. Planning
should be done in advance so that there is no mismanagement or objectives are achieved. But all
motivation that of employees would be within them meaning that intrinsic motivation is the main
sources which is binding them in way which is leading towards achievement of goal.
CONCLUSION
From the above part it was concluded that departmental store like that of Sainsbury which
is regarded to as one of the biggest company of retail industry is implementing motivation and
job satisfaction of employee. This is helping company to carry out market competition and new
policies so that firm is necessarily considering motivation of employees. There are many factors
which are there are impacting employees in terms of motivation like that of satisfaction and
opportunities within organisation. Productivity or performance of employees would be increased
and impacted if company is using and implementing motivational theories. It was also concluded
that it is required by firm that they are analysing and aligning the individual and organisational
goal. Deprived of interested worker business might not produce or improvement its segment
since marketplace thus it develops vital on share of organisation that they are inspiring their
workforces. Altogether the elementary wants of employee which is distinct hooked on need
hierarchy theory of Maslow are those connected to content theory of motivation and prominence
what is exact issue that is impacting or motivating employee with firm. Entire employees are
consuming many influences which are implementation them besides all of them is dissimilar

since one additional in way of accomplishment of aims of firm. The level of executive morals
inside establishment would also be completing enthusiasm and at that time efficiency of
corporation. Total responsibilities which are connected to employees’ obligation be in
arrangement with portrayal of occupation that they are invented to do.
Recommendation which is included in this research project analysing the impact of
motivation and productivity of employee.
It was included that company should be using theories of motivation so that employees
are been motivated and working with all their dedication.
Job productivity must be increased on part of employee so that they are been involved
into work and fulfilling their targets as well.
