Question 1
The caecum, ascending colon, transverse colon, descending colon, sigmoid colon, rectum, and
anus are the seven divisions of the broad bowel (colon). It is a muscular tube that is about 1.5
meters long that is divided into seven parts. Food flows down the gullet and throat into the
stomach after being swallowed. Food is digested as it goes into the small intestine, and the body
benefits (Bird and Tolan, 2019). It absorbs vitamins and nutrients that are important. The food is
then transported to the huge storage area that is intestine (colon), The big bowel's primary roles
include - re-absorption of water and salt into the body, to keep waste in (faeces or stool) and To
produce mucous that serves as a lubricant. For disorders of the sigmoid colon or rectum, such as
cancer and diverticulitis, a Hartmann's operation is normally done in an urgent condition. That is
normally done by open surgery. The diseased portion of the intestine is cut, and the bowel is not
reconnected. A colostomy bag (temporary or permanent) is needed (Epstein, and et.al). If you
have a temporary bag, you may need one or two more operations to get back to full bowel
function. A colostomy is a surgical procedure that involves bringing the big intestine up through
the muscular is externa to the abdominal wall and stitching it to the tissue. Mr khan’s bowel
motion is captured by placing a bag over this hole. Since a Hartmann's procedure is often done as
an emergency procedure, you will have no time to schedule and prepare for the surgery. Surgical
complications. About one of every three patients who have bowel surgery will experience a
problem as a result of their procedure. The most of these are moderate, but a few are more
serious and can be life threatening. There are two types of complications: those relating to the
anesthetic and those related to the operation. Mr Khan's anaesthetist will talk to you about the
anesthetic. If you have any other questions, speak with the surgeon or his or her staff. The
following sections go through some of the major issues. During surgery, there is a chance of
bleeding. Infection may occur in a variety of locations, including the abdomen, lungs, bowel, and
wound. In order to avoid contamination, a variety of methods are used. Antibiotics, sterile wound
dressings, and isolation of patients with serious infections are among them. To minimize the risk
of this complication, the surgical team expects you to start mobilizing on the day of the surgery
or the day after.
Obstruction of the bowels External scarring is normally the cause. It can happen after every
abdominal surgery, and it can happen even years later. Intravenous liquid, pain relievers, and
sometimes a drainage tube implanted into your nose and pushed through your body are used to
