Analyzing The Coffee Supply Chain2Coffee is an integral part of people’s daily routine. Many people enjoy it for a variety ofreasons such as its stimulating properties or its aroma. However, getting the coffee to the table isa daunting task that requires a closely-knit supply chain from the producer all the way to theconsumer as in most cases, it requires that the product flies thousands of miles across continents.Below is a map of its supply chain. Analyzing The Coffee Supply Chain3Based on this diagrammatic expression, four key entities emerge. These areProducer; The coffee grower produces the coffee. They offer the finished product, which is coffee beans tothe distributors. Producers determine the quality and nature of the coffee that goes into thesupply chain[ CITATION Chr16 \l 1033 ]. Distributors Within the coffee industry, several types of distributors come to play. First, there are theintermediaries or brokers. This group of people assists the coffee farmers and producers to gettheir produce onto the market. They assist farmers in understanding the market and sometimesnegotiating higher payment for their coffee beans. They arrange for the transactions between thesellers of the coffer and the primary buyers. Some also offer sorting and processing services. Secondly, there are also coffee trading agents. This set of people act on behalf of producers whoare the principles[ CITATION Coo93 \l 1033 ]. Sometimes they are organized in unions orcooperatives that have the coffee farmers’ authority to act in their best interest. They aid in thecollection and distribution of coffee beans from the farmers to the warehouses or points ofdistribution such as the ports. Thirdly are the exporters and importers of the coffee beans across borders. These groups ofpeople purchase the coffee from middle men and agents and them trade it onto the nextmarkets[ CITATION Hug18 \l 1033 ]. Within ports of sale, there are often auctions that determine theprice at which the coffee will be bought. The exporters and importers transact, thus paving way
