3ANCIENT HISTORYFloor PlanFloor Plan of Temple of IsisThe above diagram shows the overall floor plan of the temple that was originally in place,although several parts of it have perished. In the floor plan, it can be seen that there are 9 mainplaced marked as A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H and I. The place A denotes the entrance of the templethat was located at one corner. The entrance leads to an internal chamber that is surrounded by acorridor. In the internal chamber, the locations B, C, D, E and F are found. The place Bcorresponds to the entrance to the main cella following which is the internal chamber. Theinternal chamber, marked in the plan as C contained the main figures of Isis and Osiris. The mainaltar could be found at the position marked as D in the floor plan followed by a second altar,which is marked as E. The Purgatorium could be found at F. During its day, the worshippersused to gather at G, called as "Ekklesiasterion".
