the gig economy: What are the options?. The
Economic and Labour Relations Review, 28(3), 420-437.
The level of ‘gig’ works in Australia is reviewed
and portrayed in this article. The ‘gig’ jobs are causing
remarkable uncertainty for the existing work
regulations (Stewart & Stanford, 2017). The article has
cited both the international legislation as well as case
law apart from the case of Australia. The author
suggests that it is the responsibility of the policymakers
and regulators to strengthen and enlarge the regulatory
outline managing ‘gig’ work (Stewart & Stanford, 2017).
The five major options are noted in this article for
strengthening labour systems: application of existing
laws; modifying the meaning of ‘employment’;
establishing a different class of ‘independent worker’;
generating rights for workers and not employees; and

renovating the idea of an ‘employer’ (Stewart &
Stanford, 2017). The author points out the advantages
and also the disadvantages of ‘gig’ work. On one hand
‘gig’ works have increased smooth income, flexibility to
some sectors of the population but it has also increased
the insecurity of employment. The article concludes
with the suggestion that active strategies are essential
to build a fair labour-market.
The function of traditional employment
standards and the labour regulations are being
complicated due to the paid work connected with the
digital staged businesses such as maintenance and
delivery and some other jobs. There are least number of
remedies and standards in the area of digitally
facilitated work (Stewart & Stanford, 2017). The article
content can be used in future for writing essay in the
