Projects should be undertaken between Dec 2019 and Dec 2020 and cannot be funded
retrospectively.
Applications must clearly demonstrate a focus on one project activity from FRRR’s Project
Activity Tree (excluding those in red)

5. Lifelong Education and Training
6. Economic Strength

FRRR welcomes all project applications that meet the funding objectives and criteria, including:
Non-clinical mental health approaches that are community-based and accessible at a
grassroots level in a range of settings;
Projects that can demonstrate improved outcomes relating to reduced social isolation,
increased participation in community life, and increased help-seeking of beneficiaries;
Purchase of equipment or resources to enable delivery of a program, service, or activity
locally
Development or provision of culturally-appropriate activities and resources;
Delivery of community-based therapeutic programs and activities such as arts, theatre,
gardening, community dinners, or informal mentoring and peer support groups, which
engage vulnerable and at-risk members of the community;
Projects that reduce stigma, increase local knowledge and understanding of mental
health, promote awareness, and strengthen the skills of first responders within
communities;
Projects that are clearly aligned to, linked with, supported by or collaborating with other
local, state or industry services focused on improving mental health;
Projects that foster local partnerships that help to strengthen grassroots support
mechanisms for local residents;
Projects that can be sustained over time beyond the initial grant; and
Salaries and wages may be supported if linked to the delivery of the project and where
ongoing funding for the position is not required. Preferably, where a grant supports
wages, the project will leave a legacy and build the capacity of local community groups
and services to be able to respond and support needs or continue activities beyond the
grant.
What cannot be funded?
Ongoing core organisational operational costs (e.g. rent, utilities, regular wages, loan
repayments);
Overseas travel and overseas projects;
Prizes, gifts, trophies or awards;
Projects that have already occurred or will occur before the grant is confirmed;
Political lobbying;
Projects solely focused on animal welfare;
Projects that are for private benefit (excepting social enterprises) or which are the core
responsibility of Government.

WITH ALCOHOL/DRUG ABUSE AND MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES IN BELLINGEN
Project summary
Provide a brief summary of your project and what the funds will be used for (100 words)
The projects aim to address the problem of challenging alcohol/drug use in Bellingen
community and address mental health concerns of the group. Through the
implementation of educational campaigns and community based AOD and mental
health services, the project explains way to fulfil the objective of increasing knowledge
and skills related to health promotion, increasing social connection, addressing stigma
related to help seeking behaviour and addressing barriers to health services. The funds
granted will be used for printing educational pamphlets and implementing the
program.

and organisations, community and cultural diversity etc).
The project is targeted for people in the Bellingen community suffering from
alcohol/drug abuse and high risk of mental health issues. Bellingen is a community
located on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales. The total population of the
community according to the 2018 census includes 12, 963 (Bellingen Shire, 2018).
2.5% of the population consisted of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. 45.3%
of the population were fully employed in 2016 and 41.9% were part-time employed.
Unemployed people in Bellingen include 7.2% of the population. 29.9% of the
household had a weekly income of less than $650 (Australian Bureau of Statistics,
2016).
