Question 1:
Adult ego state:
Adult ego state operates in the present to rationally process the thoughts and feelings which
are also out of the intervention of unconscious contamination (Ciucur, 2013).
In the initial part of the movie, Andy used to dress unprofessionally and was scorned. The
adult ego state of Andy made her change into a new personality.
However in another scene, Andy once again for her adult ego state realizes that she
transformed into a person that she always felt repulsed from and left her job and boss to
be herself again.
Parent ego state:
The Parent ego state is the behaviour or thought that are learned or copied from parents or
someone close to parental figure.
Nurturing Parent:
The art director Nigel showed the ego state of a nurturing parent when he decided to help
Andy to cope up in the fashion world in The Runway. He transformed Andy into a stylish
person who is fit for such a job.
Even a cold woman like Miranda showed the nurturing parent ego state when the editor
of the New York publication called her to get reference on Andy. Miranda said that the
director would be “an idiot” if he did not hire Andy. Miranda at the final scene showed
no sign of affection when Andy waved at her, but she smiled after the car turned away.
This is the sign of a nurturing parent.
