The essay reflects on the topic ‘Are plastic destroying the earth’. With the passing years,
mother earth is acknowledging multiple problems. It is facing higher degree of waste and
pollution from human resource. It includes water pollution, carbon emission, and mainly
plastic wastage (Unnvironment). Focusing on the essay structure, the initial section
emphasizes on plastic usage. The following part includes the plastic waste in United States
and global world. The succeeding section focuses on the key reasons and adverse effect of
plastic on earth. The key purpose of the essay is to critically analyse the topic and provide a
reasonable assumption.
Plastic is transformed in multiple forms for different usage. It mainly includes Polyethylene
terephthalate, High density Polyethylene, Lo density Polyethylene, Polypropylene,
Polystyrene and expanded Polystyrene (Unnvironment). It is mainly used in the form of water
bottles, containers, bags, and Wrappers (Parker). It forms the part of daily item of every
human being. Therefore, human being is highly connected with the plastic usage and its
wastage.
With the passing years, the plastic production has extremely enhanced. In U.S. mere 10% of
plastic is recycled (Singh). Globally, about 91% of plastic waste is not recycled (Parker).
Previously, only small amount of plastic is produced and its wastage as also managed
properly. The plastic waste has comparatively enhanced by 1990s. At present, about 300
million tonnes of plastic sate is generated each year (Unnvironment). This resulted in the
accumulation of . About 5 trillion of plastic bags were produced worldwide and half of them
are designed for single usage. About 60% of wastage is dumped under land or in thee natural
environment. Annually, around 8 million of plastic waste is dumped in river water by human
beings (Unnvironment).
The government has undertaken multiple steps and implemented ban and developed policies
to minimize the plastic usage. The US government has imposed a fine of $50000 Plastic on
companies not eradicating the use of plastic. However, the USA government has not signed
the G7 commitment. It has refused to solve the plastic pollution (CASSELLA). It states that
government is not laying higher attention towards the problem solution. It is proved to be
ineffective in its role for controlling the plastic wastage in environment.
Despite knowing the adverse effect of plastic, the companies have not followed the rule made
by the government. Only some companies have initiated the use of jute bags to lower the

adverse effect of plastic waste (Hall). Walmart, a recognized supermarket brand sets key
example of such companies. Around 90% of companies are still not engaged in recycle
process to minimize wastage (Hall). The customers are also developing the high use of
plastic. They are dumping the plastics on roadside and without considering its effect. As a
responsible they are not fulfilling their responsibility towards the environment safety. It
states that business enterprise, customers and government has an upper hand in plastic
wastage.
It is produced from chemicals that are derived from natural gas and coal. These are non-
renewable resources. Thus, it dump degrades the soil and pollute the river water. By 2050, it
is estimated that ocean water will contain more plastic waste than fish (Unnvironment).
Plastic pollution in the ocean is directly affecting the marine species. It is hurting the little
organisms. Its contact with the animals makes them suffocated. Plastic burn in air is
toxicating and polluting the air. Its dump under land is degrading the soil quality. It gave rise
to more landslides (L., HF and WC). Therefore, Plastic waste is laying a terrible impact on
resources of earth.
The essay summarizes on ‘Are plastic destroying the earth’. It is analysed that plastic is used
in multiple forms. It is acknowledged that only small proportion of plastic waste is recycled.
It is analysed that government, business organizations and customers are not fulfilling their
responsibility to limit the usage. It is directly resulting in highly negative impact on earth. It
is analysed human has made the plastic. It is realized that excessive and wrong use of plastic
by human beings is the major cause of plastic pollution. Thus, it concludes that itself plastic
is not destroying the earth. Hence, a every individual’s commitment to stop plastic usage will
yield positive result and it will safeguard the mother earth from being destroyed.
