INTRODUCTIONPresent study will be based on Ai Weiwei who is a Chinese Conceptual Artist. He hasworked on multifaceted array that includes sculptural installations, photographs, videos, etc.(Hjorth and Holt, 2016). Current assignment will discuss rationale of selecting Ai Weiwei as anartist for this study. Work and project of the person will be described in detail.MAIN BODYAi Weiwei is the Chinese contemporary artist and an activist as well. Ai Weiwei hasbecome the world's famous artist. He has consistently topping power and has capacity to handlegrabbing around the globe (Warren, 2015). This ability of the person has made him the renownedartists across the world. He is famous for his activism and amazing art. Though his work waspolitically provoked and unapologetically tackle in China, it was based on human identity,human rights abuses, global imbalance, etc. His amazing work has made him the world’s famousartist person that is the main reason of choosing Ai Weiwei for this study. In the year 2008, hehas been established as Beijing contemporary art sense (Lucas, 2015). After some time, he wentto China. He has gained success in Beijing and became popular there as he has been hired as aconsultant with architects Herzong and De Meuron. Designing of Bird's Nest Stadium forcoming Olympics in Beijing was the turning point for Ai. At that time, he has started speakingagainst Chinese authorities. His speech has created conflict situation between Chinesegovernment and Ai. This moment has made the person popular across the world. This battle isstill remaining in between both (Doss, 2017).Ai Weiwei is the Chinese artist, his work towards identify was tremendous. Individualhas paid attention on human rights and has workers on social engagement. Due to his boldidentity and free speech work he has been arrested by the police. He has become the symbol ofdissidence across the world. Ai was given free speech in the Hirshhorn Museum. Speech of Aihas become the complicated topic. WeiWei always look at the situation from differentperspectives. Ai was not a common artist , individual was the political person, architect andpublisher too. Work towards identity has given new recognition of the person. Ai has exploredrelationship between traditional Chinese thoughts and contemporary world.After this conflict, Ai has taken support of internet and made Twitter account for sharinghis views and ideas. He started blogging which has made him popular but also created conflictsituation as well. That is the main reason that Twitter is being barred in China. But after critical1
situation as well, Ai has somehow managed his presence on Twitter and currently, he has 298000followers (Green, 2016.). In the year 2008, he has noticed condition of schools which gotaffected due to earthquake. In that year, he has posted the name of specific schools and studentswho died in this earthquake. He has blamed government for this death because authorities havenot taken any appropriate action at that time to save children and other people. This shows thegovernment corruption (Chiu, 2016). He was under the jail for 81 days, after completing hiscaptivity period, Ai was released but his passport confiscated. In the year 2013, Ai Weiwei hasvisited many museums and other places. In 2014, he has created Moon with Olafur Eliasson.Ai Weiwei has worked in the feature film with four Chinese artists. It was about thecultural identity. Artist has described about Chinese culture and identity of the persons (Identity,Image, and Art: Exhibitions from Ai Weiwei and DavidBowie, 2013). In this film Armory focuson artistic landscape related with the geographical region.On other hand Ai Weiwei has changed his look and has shaved head. Work of Weiweihas discussed contemporary art's dominant practices (Cultural Identities: Ai Weiwei, Cao Fei,and Cai Guo-Qiang, 2014). Weiwei has challenged sanctity of cultural heritage with the China'smodernization efforts. Never Sorry, Klayman documentary film embodiment the culturalzeitgeist. In this documentary Weiwei has begged to look upon the personal and historicalsignificance with the aesthetic beauty. Individual has described character and identity of thehuman being(Review Of 'Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry', 2016).In a happy turn of event, Ai Weiwei got permission to leave China and he became able toattend aforementioned Royal Academy retrospective in London. Though, before gettingpermission from the government, they got tricky diplomatic wranglings. After that he has beinghired as teacher at Universitat der Kunste in Berline (Spalding, 2015). Prolific nature, endlesslycreativity and fearlessly speaking has made him well known person globally. He has spoken outfor human rights which has created complicated situation for him. Finally, he has been allowedto leave China perhaps forever (Roberts, 2015).Ai Weiwei is the most famous Chinese artist, who mainly focuses on the human rightsviolations artwork so that better social well-being can be promoted. He focuses on the socialengagement. There are number of ideas which are being presented by artist in order to developconceptual framework.
