What is Art Therapy?
It is a type of therapy that uses Art as
an expressing format. There are
various kinds of art therapies used till
now which includes multidisciplinary
platforms which includes subjects like
art, sculpture, psychology, psychiatry
and painting. The usage of art
therapy leads to acknowledging the
awareness of the self and the
surrounding, it has potential to bring
clarity and calmness into the doer’s
mind.
History
Art therapy is a relatively new
form therapy, it was used during
the 18th century to treat
psychiatric patients. The term
Adrian Hill coined the term “Art
Therapy”. Art therapy’s
potential therapeutic efficacy
was understood and since the
20th century it Art therapy came
into clinical profession to treat
various illnesses related to
mental as well as physical.
Philosophy of Art Therapy
The art therapy is form of psychotherapy,
psychoanalysis and counselling inspired by the
expression of self in to an art form. It is for all
ages to relieve stress and promote a health
mental health in a non-judgmental
environment. Art therapy is combined of many
genres of art, it comprises of music, drama,
play and other creative approaches. This type
of therapy can help in self appreciation and
also cure many mental diseases like chronic
stress, anxiousness, dealing with depression,
post-traumatic stress or disorder, traumatic
brain injury and many more.
