Critical essay in the world poverty and human rights: Thomas Pogge
In this article, author has stated that human rights can be realized properly of the
entire human being will give the access to their rights. In the recent time, human rights are
directly or indirectly connected with the poverty. The connection of the poverty is direct in
the case of economic and social human rights such as right to live with adequate health as
well as with the wellbeing of their family. It is not completely true because person can get the
employment by undertaking proper research. Government of several countries are providing
the several opportunities to grow their talent in the market.
Statistics are also presented in the article. Among the total 6575 million of the human
being, around 1100 million people do not have the safe drinking water, 830 million people
are chronically undernourished, and 2600 million people are having the lack of access to the
basic necessity things and sanitation. In addition to this, it is also stated in the article that
millions of people do not have the easy access to the significant drugs. In the critique of this
article, it can be said that government in today’s time is providing the free medicines to the
people. Besides providing the drugs, people are not availing the services. Therefore, it is not
always true that poverty is increasing even after making efforts. However, it is true that
millions of the people have to face the situation of child labour. It is the serious issue that has
taken its wings to a large extent. Government is required to take the strict actions in order to
remove this issue.
Due to the poverty, around one of the death cause every year. In the entire 20th
century, many people faced the issues due to the civil wars, wars, and government repression.
Several facts and figures are also presented by the author in this article. In addition to this,
millions of people also have lack of electricity. Females and people of colour also tend to
bear the inequality in some or other way. As the US government has also declared after the
World Food Summit: “the attainment of any ‘right to adequate food’ or ‘fundamental right to
be free from starving’ is a objective or aspiration to be realized progressively that does not
give rise to any international responsibilities.”
From the article, it is understood that increase in the income inequalities also leading
to the poverty to some extent. The response of rich countries is mainly rhetorical. The long-
term decline has been seen due to the inequality among the people. With the help of
