Conflict
The basic understanding of conflicts involves the conflicts of interest. However, the
basis of the conflict differs from one situation to another. In such a situation, the factors
giving rise to the conflicts can revolve around the factors of race, class, politics and several
other factors. As far as the conflict in groups involve, the members of the group unite upon a
particular set of interest in opposition to those of the others.
Conflict with legislation
The conflict between the police and the members of the community arise from a lack
of the factor of trust between the individuals involved in the community and the legislation
authority. Most of the times the conflicts also arise from the lack of respect on the part of the
police authority perpetrated towards the police. As such most of the time, the legal authority
is faced by the allegations of misconduct. Such misconduct includes the cases of racial
profiling, usage of unnecessary force. Such incidents are prone to cast a negative impact on
the standards of the community as well as disrupt the effective execution of public safety. As
such enhancing the sense of trust between both the parties involved in the conflict leads to the
creation of a mutual sense of trust, capable of benefitting both the organization (Walden,
Javdani & Allen, 2014).
Reasons of the conflicts
Contemporary social scenarios are often marked by the cases of abusive conducts
perpetrated at the people of the society, whom they are supposed to safeguard. It can not be
denied that the law enforcement is obliged to provide the citizen with the security that is
demanded of them. Their influence lies in their ability to enforce a framework in the society.
By the virtue of their duties, the law enforcement is envisaged with a sense of undue power

that is levied upon them. Such power equation is detrimental in guiding the course of action
of the law enforcement officials. Such exercising of power allows them to perpetrate
unethical actions towards the members of the community from the assumption that their
power renders them unquestionable right to perpetrate their desired action to their will. The
perception about the unquestionable power of the law enforcement creates a sense of hatred
that raises from the perception and creates a sense of hatred towards the people present in law
enforcement (Coleman, Deutsch & Marcus, 2014).
Power theory and Conflict
The proposition of the relational theory of power states that sense of power that is
nurtured between two individuals does not initiate from the beginning of the relationship
between the concerned people. According to the theory, the power relationship develops as
the time passed between the two people and the experience gained by the two individuals in
the course of the relationship. From the perspective of the therefore it can be claimed that the
conflict between the community and the arise from the time both the community in concern
have spent with each other and in the course of the experience they have gained in the
respect. Therefore, the assumption that the relationship between community and the police
has worsened in the recent times is absurd. Rather, it can be claimed that the conflict between
them is a long drawn relationship and the experience gathered in the course (Fielding, 2017).
Strategies to mitigate conflicts
In order to mitigate the crisis resulting between the individuals. Community relation
service has been formulated in order to make initiative in that respect. The strategies can be

Representative from the community and the law enforcement can be brought about on
a platform in communication in order to find the loopholes that might exist between
the individuals.
The competency of the law enforcement should be developed and in order t o achieve
that training sessions can be used. Cultural competency would be guiding the police
officials to build a trust worthy and respectful relationship between the individuals of
the nation.
Rumors can be considered as another crucial cause that s capable of giving rise to
undue conflict. The law enforcement should introduce rumor management group.
Considering the strategies available to mitigate the crisis rising between the police and the
community resulting in acute conflicts. However, it is of crucial importance to start the
conversations with the stakeholders in both the community. Communication would be
effective in understanding the issues faced by the members of both the community, analyze
the situation to identify the loopholes and then implement other strategies accordingly
(Blitman & Price, 2017).
Conclusion
The conflict between the community and police force is the result of the long drawn
relationship both the community enjoy in each other’s presence. The reasons of the conflict
therefore turned out to be multifarious ranging from the social, cultural, political and other
issues. Therefore, in order to mitigate the same it is demanded of the stakeholders to bring
about the members of both the community in conversation to communicate the loopholes
present and analyze them in order to make the interaction effective.
