INTRODUCTION
Artificial intelligence is the part of digital advancement of modern world which
emphasises on developing a computer, robot or software which can think, work and behave like
humans. It is a field of study which solve complex problems that are impossible to solve by
humans or are time consuming. Companies like Apple, Amazon, etc. are introducing new
machines based on artificial intelligence for the ease management and to enable comfortable
service experience to their customers.
The IT technicians are working on new advancements for developing effective software and
machines which can work for the humans by just taking commands. Also people are making
films on artificial intelligence for showing both negative and positive aspects of using artificial
intelligence in daily life of humans. The essay will outline negative and positive aspects of using
artificial intelligence for deciding whether the artificial intelligence is a threat or an aid to the
future of humanity.

Artificial intelligence is the new technology for improving the thinking ability of
computers for increasing their working functionality. The scope of artificial intelligence is very
high and it is increasing at such a pace human cannot predict. The behaviour of people towards
the AI is both in positive and negative ways. AI is machine learning which supports natural
processing of language, advanced analytics and easy response to human instructions. AI in
today's time is helpful for the humans in learning and to solve the various complex problems and
theorems which are hard for the human brain. Artificial intelligence is helpful for businesses as
through this, businesses are doing automation in their business processes which saves time and
money as well as also increasing the efficiency and productivity of the companies. Through this,
management of businesses can take effective decisions by comparing the output from cognitive
technologies.
AI is also useful for minimising the human errors and offers a smart system for removing
the inefficiencies which will ultimately saves time and money of the organisations (Bostrom and
Cirkovic, 2011). Artificial Intelligence is not just a dream or science fiction but has become most
essential part of human lives and continues to simplify the lives of human race.

Humans are surrounded by the tools and technology of AI in every field and in daily
activities (Boutilier and et. al., 2015). Recently, Amazon had developed an AI machine known as
Alexa. This machine is capable of searching and playing songs on the voice command of humans
and humans does not need to push buttons or search for their favourite songs instead everything
will be done by Alexa. It is an Intelligent personal assistant which offers cloud-based voice
service. Similarly, apple and Microsoft also introduced Siri and Cortana in their devices which
respond according to human instructions shows the relevant information to the user on the
screen. Now a days google also introduced similar feature which is known as OK Google in
which user need to just provide the voice command and the google will display or play the
relevant information. These mentioned devices of Apple, Microsoft and Google can takes voice
commands and shows the data of weather, date, time and other activities which are given for the
ease and comfortability of the service users (Botkin, Elmandjra and Malitza, 2014) AI is altering
everything in the present world and is changing the way of living of humans in the society.
AI is defined as the computers of future or next generations. The major drawback of
computers is that they cannot think by themselves because of 0 IQ. While humans are working to
develop new computers based on AI which will be able to think by themselves which is a
technological revolution for human race. The benefits of AI are that it can reduce the cost of
producing for the products and services offered by the organisations. It can be a huge progress
for mankind in order to achieve high growth and efficiency in the market. AI is capable of
manufacturing the products with their thinking and sensing capability. With the help of artificial
intelligence, humans can use the robots in war zone and also AI is beneficial in defence. One can
conclude from this that AI may not destroy the human race but it can prevent the human face
from destroying themselves.
Aid of AI
AI can also be helpful for environment in order to predict the future problem based on the
going changes in the climate and through analysing the other environmental activities. If AI can
be able to determine the disasters and threats before time, then it can prevent the life and
property loss in advance and it can save the humans from such problems by providing warning to
the areas which can get affected by these disasters. Artificial intelligence is contributing to the
human civilisation by improving quality and standards of the people. Also artificial intelligence
is improving the operations and activities of businesses by providing innovative technological

advancements. Elon musk, the CEO of Neuralink is developing an innovative computer-brain
interface which will be able to connect the human brain with the computers which is a blessing
for the human kind. This technology will help the people for resolving their mental problems
which in result will improve the quality of their life.
Artificial intelligence is also used in medical and health services which includes
treatment and care of the patients who are suffering from severe medical concerns(David, 2015).
The innovative product of Neuralink is also an example of this as by connecting the brain with
computers. AI can determine the various mental and physical problems of humans. Through this
technology, doctors can treat the patients who are suffering from various infectious and non-
infectious diseases effectively.
Further, it is useful in proper diagnosis of problems as sometimes, doctors find it hard to
analyse the disease properly due to complexity of the problems (Sharon and et. al., 2015).
Another example of using AI medical treatment is that the doctors can record the entire
procedure of treatment which is provided to the patients and that record can be used for other
patients who are suffering from same problem. Also this record can be used by the machine in
absence of doctors and proper treatment can be given to the patients based on the record
available. These are just several example of using the Artificial intelligence for providing
assistance to the humans and to improve their lifestyle and quality of services.
The artificial intelligence will also be used in public department like Police for solving
the difficult cases. This can be done by the help of Neuralink product in which the memory of

culprit will be scanned by the computer and the computer assist the interrogating person in
determining whether the suspect is criminal or victim. The corruption and bribery can also be
reduced by using the AI in police department bcause it supports automation of entire police
department (Diamandis and Kotler, 2012). For example: In Dubai, the police stations are
automated where people can register their FIR, inquire regarding FIR, can check the criminal
records just with the help of computers. It acts as data base for millions of public departments
which is critical support o managing smooth functioning. There is no human intervention in the
public process which can aid in eliminating the bribery and corruption.
Threats of AI
Artificial intelligence is both threat and aid to the humanity. The threats of AI will be
discussed in this section. Elon Musk, the futurist CEO of companies such as Tesla, Spacex said
that Artificial intelligence is a fundamental threat to the human existence. He believed that the
3rd world war will happen due to the AI technology. Also according to theoretical physicist
Stephen Hawking, artificial intelligence has the ability to take over the world by themselves and
can destroy the human race (Roden, 2014). According to him, if the robots become smarter and
intelligent than humans, then they can create their own unimaginable weapons and can
manipulate the leaders of human race easily. Therefore, it can be said that regardless of threats
artificial intelligence is boon to modern era and will assist in promoting development of society
across the globe.
AI is a threat to humanity because it can increase the unemployment rate in the upcoming
future due to the automation which is going on in the present world. Robots are replacing
humans in every process whether it is production or its management. These robots will keep
replacing the humans as they can offer better results and also are improving the efficiency of the
operations handled by them when comparing the work with humans (Frank and Hohimer, 2011).
Various jobs are undertaken by the computers till now and same will goes on in future.
Technology cannot be trusted as this is created by humans and also humans can hack it for their
personal and dangerous purpose such as for robbery, killing, getting the confidential data of
humans, etc.
Recently in 2016, a private company i.e. Cambridge Analytica was caught using the
artificial intelligence for tempering the results of US election and U.K.'s Brexit referendum. The
statement of Elon Musk can be seen as valid that world war 3 will be because of AI and it would

be against robots instead of against humans. According to Future of Life Institute, AI can also be
used for reducing traffic congestion for the benefit of humans but using AI in traffic will not only
direct the traffic improperly but it can also result in people getting late and even can lead to
accidents. Governments are thinking to use AI in weapons for helping the soldiers and civilians
who are in war prone zone. But Elon Musk and Stephen Hawking continues to call for ban on
these weapons as according to these intellectuals AI supportive tools can be able to attack the
target without any commands from the humans (Pearson, 2012). Thus, from the discussion it can
be said that establishing control on technology of AI can be beneficial for the industries
worldwide.
Violence is not the only threat which will happen for using the artificial intelligence.
There are other ways also through which AI can negatively affect the human's life. For example,
AI is capable of violating the privacy rights of humans. Recently Facebook developed a facial
recognition system, which is capable of recognising the individuals from the photos and then
suggest the users in tagging recommendations. Companies are developing better recognition
systems which are able of recognising the individuals on the basis of their clothes, walking style
and also from the voice. However, if the artificial intelligence will be implemented in security
systems, then there are chances of theft of confidential data and privacy of humans. While it is
articulated that NSA and China has already started to develop such facial recognition systems
which can detect the suspects and individuals from any location through the security cameras,
satellite, mobiles and computer systems of those suspects and individuals (Fuller, 2011).
According to some AI experts and researchers, If artificial intelligence is a threat to
humans, then it is essential to understand the development rate and time at which the AI can pose
a threat on the existence of human kind. According to an AI experts Aguirre, we are decades
away in developing the super intelligent AI which can pose a threat to our survival. It doesn't
mean that we need to ignore those effects until they arise, but it means that we need to monitor
threats during the development stage of AI and need to be ready to deal risk like rising of
machines against humans.
AI has the power and intelligence which can lead to devastating outcomes in the future.
AI has its own mind and is used in almost every field (Ghahramani, 2015). Humans are
designing and implementing AI for automating the weapons for killing the enemy with ease but
even these weapons can become disastrous for humans when held in wrong hands. When

governments tried to develop dangerous weapons for the protection of their people than it was
discovered that these weapons are misused by the few people like ISIS and Al-quida which
resulted in killing of mass number of people for fun and entertainment. Technology is something
which is useful for humans but also have some negative effects which needs to be determined
and controlled before occurrence of disastrous events. If the AI technology can get in wrong
hands, then it will have negative and dangerous effects on the living of people. The AI is
programmed to do something beneficial for the human race. This can happen whenever we fail to
fully align the AI goals with our needs, which is quite difficult for the future generation (Miller,
2018). Artificial intelligence has increased the use of technology to gain advantage over the
human evolution. Thus, it can be articulated that AI has effected the use of manpower and
workforce in almost every task or work of different industries, which has resulted in loss of
employment opportunity for the human beings.
CONCLUSION
From the above discussed essay report, it can be concluded that introduction of Artificial
Intelligence is a boon or aid for mankind in its initial stage as it is benefiting the individuals in
improving the quality and standard of their lifestyle. It is widely used in the healthcare, defence,
police and day to day life of human beings. Companies like Apple, Microsoft and Google are
introducing their devices for the ease and comfort of the human beings.
