ESSAY: HOW DO WESTERN AND ASIAN CULTURES AFFECT EACHOTHER IN FASHION INDUSTRY?INTRODUCTIONThe culture of an individual is associated with his lifestyle, behaviour, dressing andtraditions which is directly influenced by nationality, religion, society, etc. Therefore, cultureplays an important role within social lifestyle of the people. Fashion is best defined simply as thestyle or styles of clothing and accessories worn at any given time by group of people that isgreatly influenced by culture, religion and lifestyle of people. Furthermore, it is examined thatfashion industry is directly influenced by the culture of people so as several designers in all overthe world are offering new collections and clothing range with reference to culture and traditionsalong with clothing senses of other countries (Crane, 2012). It plays an important role inexpansion of particular culture in different culture. In addition to that globalization of businessand fashion industry has been addressed as most important motivator for the promotion andgrowth of culture in other countries through fashion industry. In this context, this essay is goingto discuss different aspects of fashion industry. In this process, this study examines the impact ofWestern and Asian cultures on fashion industry of each other. For collection of wide range ofdata, this report considers qualitative approach in which wide range is going to acquire throughseveral books, journals, online resources etc. MAIN BODY Fashion industry is termed as multibillion-dollar global enterprise which is managingvarious business operation associated making and selling clothes. In this context, there have beensignificant differences between the expensive designer fashions that are shown on the runways ofParis and New York. In this regard, culture of people in all over the world is creating hugeimpact on designers approach along with purchase decisions for clothes in order to meet differentobjectives (Power and Scott, 2004). As per the research of McRobbie (2013) it has beenaddressed that the fashion industry consists of various activities such as designing,manufacturing, distribution, marketing, retailing, advertising as well as promotion of all types ofapparel. In this process, culture plays important role in selection of fabric and design etc. In thecontext of present era, it has been found that Asian roots, traditions and dressing sense is creating

huge impact on fashion industry in western countries. Apart from that increase in number ofAsian origin people in western nations is also identified as most important element that influencewestern designers and cloth makes to consider culture and clothing of other nations in theircollection and design (Bhardwaj and Fairhurst, 2010). In similar way, expansion of business ofwestern companies in Asian countries has considered as most important factor or reason ofwesternisation of dressing sense or fashion industry in Asian countries such as China, India, andJapan etc. Manlow (2009) has determined that the fashion industry is termed as a most importantelement of modern era. In this context, it is evaluated that before mid-19th century, all kinds ofclothing products was handmade for individuals in the form of home production or on order fromdressmakers and tailors. Furthermore, In 20th century, the rise of new technologies such as thesewing machine have played most crucial role in order to influence clothing design and theirmanufacturing process in different culture in the all over the world (How did the widespreadadoption of western clothing happen?, 2016). Author further argued that the fashion industrywas developed first in Europe and America then spread in all over the world. This time durationwas identified as a most important motivator of promotion of western culture in Asian countries.Presently, it is the international and highly globalized industry because wide range of clothingproducts often designed in one country and manufactured in another then after sold in a third.For example, an American fashion company might acquire fabric in China in order tomanufacture these clothes in Vietnam (Shen, Wang, Lo and Shum, 2012). These clothes arefinished in Italy and shipped to a warehouse in the United States for distribution to retail outletsinternationally. In this process, culture and traditions of different countries is creating hugeimpact on design and appearance of clothes. Therefore, globalization of fashion is considered asmost important factor from the point of view of promotion of culture in other countries throughclothes. The study of Lemire and Riello (2008) has found several reasons for global popularity ofWestern Fashion in all over the world especially in Asian region. In this context, it is evaluatedthat Western fashion has something to do with opinion which is considered in the form ofmodernism versus traditionalism. This is because Western clothing is often thought to be moremodern than Eastern clothing rends and culture. Furthermore, it has found that culture and
