INTRODUCTION
Human services refers to a kind of widely defined concept including unique approach to
meet objectives of requirements via an interdisciplinary knowledge bases. It focus on the
prevention as well as remediation of issues along with maintaining quality of overall life quality
of entire population living in the country (Benton and Shaffer, 2016). It includes number of
human services providers such as teacher, health visitor, social worker, mental health worker,
child abuse workers, police officer, probation officer, medical doctor, psychologist, speech
therapist, nursing, midwifery and many more. This report is based on the profession of nursing
which provide care to diseased people as per instructions of licensed physician. It will focus on
main duties and responsibilities of nursing along with related policies.
MAIN BODY
Description of the main duties, responsibilities and tasks of nursing
Nursing can be defined as an important medical profession in which a registered nurse
provide care and medical services to diseased according to the instruction of physician. They
have a role to monitor the condition and remain 24*7 with the patients. Main duties in nursing
includes to conduct assessment and plan to fulfil nursing care needs. Nursing staff is required to
provide pre and post operation care to the patient. Basically, it consist the criterion of monitoring
and administering the medication as well as intravenous infusions. Meanwhile, they have a duty
to take patient samples, pulse rate, temperatures and blood pressure to examine entire medical

condition of an individual. However, it involves nurse is required to write records of patient
information and supervise junior staff (Chin and et. al., 2019). It includes their duty of organising
works pressures and providing emotional support to sick person and their relatives. They have
another important duty to teach student nurse about clinical practices.
Responsibilities and tasks of nursing includes the responsibility of recoding medical
history and symptoms. They are responsible for collaborating with overall team members
associated in patient care for planning to deliver appropriate care services. They have tasks of
advocating regarding health and wellness of an individual and responsible for administering
treatments & medications. However, the nursing staff has a clinical tasks of operating with the
medical equipments and carry out desired diagnosing tests to evaluate patient problem.
Moreover, they are accountable for educating the sick people in context of their management of
illness along with delivering proper help & advice to patients.
Types of of services in nursing consist various categories such as adult day care, respire
care, assisted living, skilled nursing care, medical care, nursing & rehabilitative care, personal
care, rehabilitative care, dementia care, veterans care, hospice care and in-home care.
How and why the occupational group of nursing emerged
Women is a caretaker of children family and community so that they were working as
nurses as the human society evolved. In this context, some of nurse were paid for their services
form the beginning which is specially true in case of those care givers who cares about newborn
babies when mother died. At that tie, those women whose bay get diet or they are capable to take
care more than one baby then they are mostly observed for accepting the employment of a wet
nurse, They generally used to go and live in home of their employers (Park, Park and Cho,
2016).
After the civil war, the highly need of building hospitals developed and it will facilitate
the development of nursing as a credentialed profession. It is observed that many times a person
has money but no relatives for taking care then a nursing professionals requires. However, the
when the babies and old age people become alone and need special attention of care then nurses
are required. It has been analysed that some of widowed women earn from charities by providing
care services. Meanwhile, the injured soldiers on civil war has no one to care for them then Mary
Ann Bickerdyke only allowed with army and she was the firs women to work as a nurse in such
context. And she proves herself as a sole nurse for around 2000 men. This profession get started

in such manner which get increased as per enhanced requirements nursing care then it become a
profession where they have an important role between patient and physician.
On the other hand, it has been evaluated that more female physicians were working at the
time of 19th century. It includes the main fact that those female physicians actually realise the
need of nurses in healthcare organisations and worked hard to professionalise the nursing
occupation (Liu, Aungsuroch and Yunibhand, 2016). Moreover, this is the reason and way
through which nursing become professional which is necessary in current era for providing
accurate care for better health of people.
Analysis of policies and legislations relate to nursing
Nursing is an important profession of healthcare sector where they are required to be
performance in an effective way. It includes the criterion of following various policies and
legislation by nursing staff while addressing their duties by providing care facilities to patient for
their wellness. The policies of nursing includes that each sick individual is given a unique MRN
and this number is permanent. Secondly, it is necessary for a registered nurse that they must
make sure about appropriate entry of patient at the time of registration. Thirdly, in case when
patient brought unconscious in emergency department then they identity should be registered as
'UNKNOWN' and an MRN is given until full details are available. However, all admitted
patients are given a wrist bad that should be removed before discharging them (Manning,
Pfeiffer and Larson, 2016). Moreover, proper precautions should be taken by using lab coats,
mouth covers, gives etc. and carefully handling medicine, blood product and many more.
Additionally, they should followed organisational policies, procedures and codes of conduct with
quality standards properly.
Legislation consist laws and acts set by legal bodies for nursing staff to be followed by
conducting their duties and responsibilities at work place. It includes Aged Care Act 1997,
Euthanasia Laws Act 1997, Gene Technology Act 2000, Health Insurance Act 1973, Privacy Act
1988, Health Records (Privacy and Access) Act 1997, Medical Treatment Health Directions Act
2006, Mental Health Act 2015, Health Act 1911, Transplantation and Anatomy Act 1979 and
many more. However, these legislation must be considered by every nurse to carry out clinical
tasks in appropriate manner (Duprez and et. al., 2017). Meanwhile, these are helpful to direct
efforts of nursing staff in correct direction which facilitate to reduce chance of occurring

complications. Additionally, it is favourable to make their skills perfect as well as increase the
patient outcomes.
Address changes to society which might be linked to the emergence, development of nursing
profession
There are various kinds of changes in society are required for emergence and
development of nursing profession. It is necessary to improve reputation of nursing occupation
among society because some of people still don't like this job and they did not allow females of
their family to choose this profession as their career. However, government should put efforts for
enhancing the image of nurses so that they will get desired respect in society. Some of another
changes are also needed like adoption of innovative and advanced technology in hospitals.
Basically, it is required to encourage the access of nurses to care for poor and for residents living
in rural areas. However, it is necessary to expand the national primary care capacity and respite
& palliative care considering hospice for emergence of nursing profession. Moreover, the
opportunity should be provided to them for enhancing the career growth and achieve success in
future.
Address the successes and downfalls related to profession of nursing
The success is that nurses get opportunity to care about others and everyday life make
them learn new things because they deal with different people. It is beneficial for them to
understand about various kind of disease with their dissimilar symptoms along with an effective
way of dealing them. However, they have a chance to get another career opportunities like
research field and others to gain success (Camak, 2016). Nursing staff can make a good income
by their profession and never face less jobs in market with better growth opportunities. In
contrary to this, many of downfalls have been faced by nurses such as being undervalued and
face situation due to having difficult patients and difficult co-workers. It includes the problem of
regular stress of work pressure, working long days, physical demands of people, emotional strain
and working holidays.
CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS
From the above report, it has been concluded that nursing is a essential part of healthcare
sector as they provide care services 24*7 to patient. It includes to follow various policies and
legislation which make the perfect in their work and improve patient outcomes. In contrary, it

has been recommended that effective communication should be maintain by nurses with their
team to make appropriate decision making of treatment. However, it is suggested that proper
time management should be conduct by nursing staff because time is very precious otherwise
mismanagement of time may leads to death of an individual.
