Essay Passage
Annually, August 16th is celebrated as the world environment day, majorly to raise the
awareness of protecting and conserving nature. It is a data that we are all reminded of
sustainability; that we are not the only existing creatures in this planet, and that for the sake of
future generation, we need to be conservative with the environment. When you take a cross-
check of the environment around you, there are plastic materials, polyether materials,
undecomposed materials, fumes from vehicles and factories all suffocating the air. We cannot
afford to breathe clean and fresh air, and if so happens that we continue with the same trend, the
little ones may never get a chance to breathe fresh air and may be adversely affected in various
ways that their life span may rapidly depreciate.
All these are attributed to us. We tend to be so busy, concentrating on our phone and
forgetting to switch off the lights during the day. We cook food in excess and ends up throwing it
in the dustbins, yet other people are lacking what to feed on for even once a day. We live the
water taps open, failure to switch off some of the electrical appliances that adopt
environmentally unfriendly ways of harvesting energy. We tend to no more extended care about
what we obtain free from Mother Nature. For once, have we ever pondered on what that plastic
bottle thrown on the road carelessly, plastic polythene thrown on the field, food thrown on dust

bins, etc. can do to o9ur lovely planet earth. If yes, then why do we continue to feel the heat
from direct sunlight increasing and becoming more intense?
It is high time that we come together as a nation, sit down, reason together, and be
responsible for what the Mother Nature has freely provided to us. The theme for this year is
"connecting with nature.” You might wonder on what the theme might mean, or how you would
connect with nature. The answer is straightforward and works on one principle that seems
unfamiliar to many, "plant more trees as possible’. The trees will usually help in retaining the
lost glory and pride in a clean environment. Else, who is not proud of a clean and beautiful
environment? Let every citizen play his role, and collectively, we shall rejoice.
The time is now, let’s not keep waiting and postponing. Let’s start by planting trees from
the doorstep, plant flowers, and outdoor, ensuring that you have an annual program of planting
trees. Encourage the children as early as grade one to care for the environment, and when they
grow up, they will never depart from the culture of environmental conservation and protection,
they shall always “connect with nature.’ If you have never had an opportunity to appreciate the
beauty of our mother nature, then perhaps take a walk by the beachside in the moonlight, and
you shall experience it by yourself.
Appreciating and connecting with nature will of no doubt results in positive results, and
we will care less polluting it. From old to young, plant a tree every beginning of the month, else
the benefits of clean water, fresh air, sumptuous food, will be a story of the past. Let’s start now,
appreciate the Almighty’s creation, and connect with nature. Mother Nature is our responsibility.
