INTRODUCTION
A form of education in which people, students and professionals reflect upon their learning
of specific cases and others is known as reflective study. In this reflective study I want to discuss
my experience and feelings by assessing case of family violence. I will discuss impacts that
family violence has on victims and specially on children.
MAIN BODY
Reflection on experience of Polly and Me short film
Description: I am working as a social worker as I wanted to help vulnerable people and all
those people who are in need. Now I got an opportunity to help children and mother who are
suffering from man problems. In this self reflection I want to share my experience and feelings
regarding Polly and Me. It is a short film whose main subject is issue of protection. I want to
increase my knowledge by understanding and studying on such issues and helping them out.
Experience: In regard to Polly and Me, short film, I can say that it was very difficult for
me to watch this film. In this film, 7 years old child and her mother face several problems and
end of this film made me cry. As social workers it is our duty and responsibility to help people
and keep our emotions aside in order to help them out in an effective manner. But I am too
emotional and I cannot see children in this situation where they are violated to the great extent.
The main part that made me cry was: sexually harassment to 7 years old child by her mother’s
male friend. Her single mother consumes drugs and alcohol that also affects her daughter
mentally and physically (Abrahams, 2017). Also, her mother does not allow her to go outside
and school as well that also affect her growth and development. I cannot imagine my life without
going outside So, I could experienced her pain as how difficult it was for her to be at one place
all the time and also living at surrounding where there is violence and nothing else. Overall, I can
say that it was very difficult for me to watch this short film or assessing this.
Evaluation: I want to discuss good and bad thing that I analyzed by assessing this film.
The good thing that I found was: relationship between mother and daughter. I found that after
consuming alcohol and drugs, she did not harm her daughter knowingly. Another good thing that
I found by assessing this film was: an ability of her mother to manage herself and her daughter.
She has not permanent job but still she is managing herself and her daughter financially. There
