During your last shift at Wings, a residential out of home care unit there was a behavioural
escalation with the young person Joshua where he smashed several glass cups on the
kitchen floor as well as throwing all the contents of the fridge on various walls in the house.
Joshua threatened to cut himself with the broken glass. Joshua escalated after he was told
there was no petty cash to go to McDonalds and you didn’t accept Joshua’s demand to pay
out of your own money. Joshua said that another worker had paid for Joshua out of his own
money in the past.
Joshua has now retreated to his room and is watching a DVD. Joshua is the only young
person in the unit at this time.
As you are assessing the hazards, Joshua approaches you in the kitchen and begins to
disclose new information about his past, about how his parents treated him. Joshua has
