INTRODUCTION
Competition is increasing day by day in today's world where there are a number of
competitors to have innovative ideas as well as productive technology which can help them in
increasing their profits and increase the market share. For this leadership is an important this
is because it guide every individual within the organisation toward the goals and objectives of
firm. Leadership that qualities of an individual where they can write motivate influence the
behaviour of individual by combining their efforts in group behaviour for achieving the goals
and objectives of organisation. It is important to identify the effective leadership within the
organisation for motivating the employees as well as achieving the goals and objective of the
organisation in and timely manner for this there are number of possibilities which can be
identified by individual for becoming an effective leader (Smith and Squires, 2016). Mr Glyn
Hughes is an also example of a great leader who is working in the organisation mother care
as a CEO. In this report there will be discussion on the management styles and principles
which are followed by Mr Glyn Hughes while working as a CEO of MOTHERCARE. It is a
British retailer which specialist in the product of expectant mothers and in general
merchandise for children up to 8 year age. Companies also listed in London stock exchange
where it operates 150 stores in UK. The beginning of the report will consist of how and what
the steps are taken by the CEO of mother care for increasing the performance of the
organisation as well as making the organisation culture proper for employees (Guetterman
and Mitchell, 2016). The middle of the report is consist of the leadership styles which are
followed by the CEO of mother care to enhance the organisation effectiveness and analysis of
effects of powers influence and conflicts that are used by mother care for increase the
performance within the organisation.in the end of the report there will be discussion upon the
various types of motivation which are used by mother care for motivating their employees
and increasing performance.

There are number of management techniques and styles which can be used by other
leaders for guiding and managing the organisation in and effectively for achievement of
organisation goals and objective. Management style can be defined as a process which is used

by the leaders for guiding and motivating employees within the organisation. There are some
very styles and principles which are followed by the CEO of MOTHERCARE Mr Glyn
Hughes. These principles are mentioned below:
Set appropriate goals: according to Mr Glyn Hughes it is important to set the goals
as it helps a leader in setting the priorities within the activities and focus on efforts. For this
they use smart goals which are specific measurable action oriented real stick and time bound.
These goals are generally meaningful which can be easily achieved by a leader for increasing
motivation as well as reducing the chances of failure. For this also used theories which are
propounded by some authors like theories of scientific management given by Frederick
Taylor. this also help them in achieving targets within the time by identifying the efficiency
within their effort and mining different standard of work which will according to the working
of an individual (Johansen, M.L. and Cadmus, E., 2016).
A good plan to achieve these goals: Mr Glyn Hughes always thinks that of the
setting the poles the duty of an individual to develop a proper plan achievement of goals in an
effective manner. For this the CEO of MOTHERCARE use different type of planning tools
which help them in increasing the effectiveness of their plant. You always use principles like
division of work equity discipline initiative principle of authority and responsibility which
directly help in improving the planning of goals.
Empower the employee: he always focus on maximizing the probability of the
employees for achieving the goals and objectives for this Mr Glyn Hughes believe that there
must be a proper training and development program which has the employees in performing
unnecessary task within the organisation. For this use different motivation techniques as well
as cultural functions within the organisation for increasing the performance of employees’
direction to organisation goals (Way, K.A., Jimmieson, N.L. and Bordia, P., 2016).
Access the performance and make adjustments: you always believe on different
type of management techniques and styles where he used to access the performance of the
employees by using the performance management tools and techniques. You also use
different type of functions like principle of remuneration and stability of tenure which help
him in increasing the performance and identifying the factors related to performance of
employees within the organisation. It is difficult to manage the people but if there is use of
science and scientific principles that it is not difficult for accessing and managing the
performance as well as making some adjustment (Ramos, P., Mota, C. and Corrêa, L., 2016).
