Introduction
Plagiarism refers to representation of some other authors ideas, thoughts, expressions
and language as one’s personal work. It is often seen in educational context that there are
various definitions of plagiarism which can be different for different institutions. Plagiarism
is considered as the violation of academic integrity and also as a breach of journalistic ethics
(Guraya and Guraya, 2017). It is often seen that people or students who are find using
plagiarism can face penalties, suspension or even expulsion from work or school along with
substantial fines. Plagiarism is however not a crime but often it can be called a fraud and is
punishable under law. Punishment of plagiarism is often caused due to copyrights that author
have of their intellectual property. The following essay consist of use of plagiarism in
academic writing and professionalism. Also ways to avoid plagiarism have been discussed in
the following essay.
Essay
Plagiarism is an act in which the information, ideas or words of another person or
author is used without giving credit to them. It is often seen that students in university
courses are using work from author representing them as their own which is a great offence
and they also have to face repercussions of it. The student who are using plagiarism have to
cope up with negative consequences which can also result in poor grades and procrastination.
There are a number of different types of plagiarism which can be used by students as well as
professionals. The first is intentional plagiarism where the author is intentionally using work
of different people in different ways. It is also often seen that some are directly copying entire
study and changing the authorship of the report as their own (Engkizar, Alfurqan and Muliati,
2018). There are author who are using data from different sources and mixing them to make
it seem original for their work. Accidental plagiarism is another type of plagiarism which is
very common among student who are practising graduate. This can usually happen due to
incorrect paraphrasing or also inappropriate use of different citations and quotation. Students
are paraphrasing the sentences but they often retain the structure of sentence which is also
considered as plagiarism. Another type of plagiarism is self plagiarism in which people are
using their own work which was published earlier without proper citations due to which
plagiarism arises. There are a number of ways in which internet have change plagiarism.
