Does bureaucracy empower of dis- empower the individual with reference to Weber bureaucracy
theory
The bureaucracy is defined as the structure or the set of rules which are made in order to
control the working of the company or any of the organization. It is very essential for the
company to have a bureaucratic environment as this will assist proper and disciplined work
within the company or the business organization (Beetham, 2018). The bureaucracy is very
necessary for the company and other organization to manage as if this will not be present then
this have an impact over the working efficiency of the company. Thus, for this Max Weber has
initiated a theory named the Max Weber Bureaucracy theory and this theory states that the
bureaucracy is an administrative system which is majorly designed to accomplish the activities
and the goals of business in positive and effective manner. In the continuation of the study
Weber found that within the company there are three different types of power which the people
can use that is the traditional, rational- legal or bureaucratic and the charismatic power. But out
of the three Weber majorly focused over the bureaucratic power as this is much better and
effective power as compared to other two powers.
The major feature of this theory is that this theory empowers the individual with
responsibility as when there is bureaucracy in the company then there is more discipline and
following of the rules and regulation in the company. This following of the rules and regulations
within the company is very essential as this will guide the employees that whether they are
working in the same direction or not and if not then what are the methods through which they
can work in right direction. Thus, this will empower the individual to take proper decision in
order to make the working of the company in effective and efficient manner. This is due to the
reason that if the employees will work in bureaucratic working environment then they will be
able to manage the working in more effective and efficient manner and this will result in more
better attainment of the goals and objectives of the business.
In addition to this another major feature of this theory of bureaucracy is that in general
the administrative class of the business that is the top management of the company (Gregory,
2017). This is majorly because of the reason that if the top management will not work with
bureaucratic power then they will not be able to manage the working of the company to a great
