AI Summary
This document presents the Fold House project, an interior design assignment focusing on sustainable design principles. It includes a site plan, floor plan, north and east elevations, and a rationale for the design scheme. The design considers factors such as color schemes, furniture arrangement, focal points, space utilization, and lighting systems (ambient, task, and accent). The project emphasizes creating a comfortable and functional space with careful consideration of traffic flow and furniture placement. The document also includes general views of the model from various angles and a presentation board, demonstrating the design's overall aesthetic and functional considerations. References are provided to support the design choices and principles applied.

Task A.2_Rationale for the Scheme
The approach to the scheme used in the design was depended on several factors such as
color and organization of furniture and accessories. The color schemes chosen for any design can
either make it or break it. Also, the arrangement of objects is essential in coming up with a good
design.
The design was based on grouping of the objects according to their shapes, heights and
textures. Also, the similarity of the objects determined their position within the extension. In
other words, the first consideration was to group the objects together according to their
characteristics.
Emphasis of the extension room was put on the focal point. The focal point is the point
where the eyes are naturally drawn to when a person first enters a room. All the objects around
the focal point complement it (Pella, 2018). Therefore, the design started by finding the

extension’s focal point as a start for the project. Among the structures that formed the central
point for the extension are the fire place, and the large windows and doors.
Space was a consideration in the design. Negative space in the design is left and is not
taken by any object (K.Renee, 2016). In the design under consideration, the walls have large
areas that are not occupied. The spaces could be filled with objects, however, that was not the
case because the space ‘speaks’ for itself.
Another factor that was considered in the scheme was the lighting system. The lighting
schemes commonly used for interior design are ambient, task and accent. The design’s lighting
scheme covers the three basic types of lighting. First, the extension is designed specifically for
dining. Therefore, an ambient lighting type is adopted because it is meant to evenly illuminate
the room. The same lighting serves as a task lighting system because the sources of light are
directed on the tables. The specific task of the lamps is to light the dining area or tables. Lastly,
the scheme is meant also adopted accent lights, especially around the kitchen like area to
highlight the cabinets. Different types of lighting gave the extension dimension (Wong, 2015).
The arrangement of the furniture also contributed to the scheme. Arranging furniture in
the extension was based on focal points, the fireplace, the kitchen area and the windows. The
furniture was also arranged to create a conversation area. The objective was to create an area
where people could comfortably talk to one another without straining or shouting. Traffic flow
was also another important consideration taken. The design was done such that there is enough
room for movement in the extension and around the furniture. Care was taken not to put the
furniture close to the walls. The pieces are arranged in a design they are closer together so as to
create a more intimate setting (Flanagan, 2018).
