13. Nurses have been engaged in various clinical practice, but a vast number of literature have
admitted about the appalling standards of care in mental health care wards, especially while
treating the dementia. It can be due to the fact that most of the caregivers are not much aware of
the clinical manifestations or are not knowledgeable about the pathophysiology of the condition.
Since, this a progressive terminal disease and involves both physical and mental issues, there are
several guidelines related to restraints or use of sedation or psychotic medicines, which
caregivers might not be aware of , hence they do not understand how to respond during the attack
(1). Hence, its is a requirement, that the caregivers be provided with education on care of the
patients suffering from dementia.
14. PICO question: Does educational program increase the knowledge about dementia among the
caregivers?

16. According to the article ‘Illness representations in caregivers of people with dementia” it has
been found out that although most of the caregivers could identify some of the aetiological
factors and the factors contributing to the exacerbating symptoms of dementia, but a limited
number of caregivers could tell how the dementia patients can self-manage their exacerbations.
