Abstract
Research is about the aviation industry. Aviation is the industry which contribute high growth in
the economy of the country. It not only make travelling time shorter but also enables economic,
scientific cultural and social connections. This industry provide large number of employment
opportunities. This research report will explain different operation factors that can arise while
flying globally such as Cultural customs and practices, Cultural barriers, Visa requirements,
Runway information and Approaches that should be taken if weather is bad. The country that has
been chosen for the research is Singapore.

international market for Singapore airlines and also allowed other countries airlines to operate

Language of Singapore
Singaporeans are mainly recognized by four languages: Mandarin, Tamil, English and Malay.
English is the formal language and used in Singapore for business and management (Straits
times. 2017). Generally children of Singapore learn English language and their mother tongue. It
shows that most of the population of Singapore speak more than one language and many of them
know more than two languages (Straits times. 2017). Usually Singaporean speak mix of
Mandarin, English, Malay and other languages it is called Singlish. Grammar used in the
Singlish is different so it becomes difficult to understand for those who speak Standard English.
Although for avoiding the communication problem adults of Singapore speak Standard English.
Customs of Singapore
Singaporean are getting westernized, but the older generation of Singapore still follow their
traditions and culture. Some of their culture standards: Pointing the foot towards something is
considered as a rude gesture in their culture, pointing someone by using finger is also considered
as rude behavior, Singapore people offer items with both hands otherwise offering with one hand
is considered as disrespect, they believe in giving respect to their elders and behave politely
(Inter nations. 2017). Singaporeans remove their shoes before entering their homes.
Cultural barriers
One of the important fact about Aviation industry is that it has multicultural and varied
workforce. It is common now a days that people prefer to move around different countries
(Aviation Knowledge. 2009). With this travelling through airlines became very reasonable for all
class of the people. This is increasing the demand of international travel ports and increased
number of people from one culture to different culture and language. With the increase in the
safety and innovation efforts in Aviation business internationally the demand for multi-cultural
understanding has increased. Due to the presence of different cultures approaches for technical or
commercial opportunities should vary according to the perception of different culture. Although
it might can happen that perception of different cultures may not be correct but they should not
ignore it and should identify and appreciate the directing constraints of another country. This is
important for those countries and business which are comprised with multi-cultural society and
culture.

aviation. Accordingly, decision making, interaction between human and computer and
knowledge of behavior are normally obtained from workers in Western cultures (Aviation
Knowledge. 2009). Besides this, expectations of roles and responsibilities of western culture
pilot may differ from the expectation of non-western culture pilot. Through increase in the air
traffic the interaction between multi-culture pilots and controller of air traffic will increase and
will lead to worldwide association for safety, communication and training in the process of
aviation. Through this it can be said that it is important to recognize different countries problems
and opportunities as the perception differ from country to country. Single nation may feel that
their perception is correct as it is delivering the solution, this can arise problem because all the
countries are not same and common strategies for all the countries can affect the safety of
aviation (Aviation Knowledge. 2009).
Visa requirements

For all Singapore foreign assignments form for visa application is accessible free of cost
(excluding non-resident High commissioners/ Ambassadors based in Singapore) (Ministry of

For providing Changi Airport a third arrival strip to manage increasing number of flights have
been put on hold till after February. This is because runway 3 will be used for Airshow in
Singapore from Feb 16 to 21 which is presently used for military flights (Straits times. 2017).
Presently, the runway covers 1,000ha area of land as the terminal 5 is also planned to be built in
that area of land. The runway is situated near the air show site and airport premises site is 1.6km
away from it. Changi airport runway should be extended and strengthened to hold planes like
Airbus 380 superjumbo. Approx 40km of taxiways to be built to connect current runways with
Runway 3. Three-runway were awarded to joint venture between Samsung C & T Corporation
and Koh Brothers in October for the growth of Changi airport. Runway 2 will be shut for some

time in 2019 to finish the network of taxiways when 3 runway will start working (Straits times.
2017).
Approaches that should be taken if weather is bad
Pilots use different approaches that can guide them in bad weather. When airport is in horrible
condition like Arctic storm then pilot use an instrumental approach (Paur. J. 2012). Pilots use
instrument meteorological conditions while flying in the clouds and they do not get navigation to
reach the ground. Only signals are not sufficient to land safely. An approach is used to help pilot
that there will be no conflicts while landing the plane and confirm both pilot and traffic
controller about the aircraft’s expectable place. For the backup pilot can also use GPS approach
with the old school non-directional deacon radio approach. Different radio frequency approaches
are also used by pilot to interact with the air traffic controllers and to receive information. A
missed approach procedure is also used by the pilots when they cannot see the runway at 400
feet (Paur. J. 2012).
Conclusion
In the conclusion it can be said that Aviation business is one of the reason in the growth of
Singapore economy and provide different employment opportunities to the citizen of the country.
As Singapore airport is the sixth busiest airport in the Asia but there are different international
operation factors to be considered. Five of them are explained above such as Cultural customs
