Assignment Brief and Guidance:

You have been appointed as the new marketing manager assistant for an organisation of your
choice. The first objective you have been set is to discuss the concept of marketing as well as its
role within the organisation. Further to this you will have to explain how marketing interrelates
with other functions within the business. Secondly, you have to research and compare with
another organisation in the same industry and produce a marketing plan for the organisation
based on your findings.

You will need to produce a report that includes the following:

Explain the role of marketing and how it interrelates with other functional units of an organisation.

1. Introduction to the definition and concept of marketing, including current and future trends.

2. Explanation of the role and responsibilities of a marketing manager in the context of the
organisation.

3. Analysis on the significance of having effective interrelationships between different functional
departments.

Compare and evaluate the elements of the marketing mix (7Ps) of the organisation that you chose
with one competitor in the same industry to achieve overall business objectives.

4. State the business objectives of two organisations.

5. Comparison and evaluation of the marketing mix. (7Ps)

6. Overview of the marketing planning process and marketing strategy

Develop and evaluate a basic marketing plan for your organisation based on the above findings.

7. Situation analysis (SWOT/PESTLE)

8. Marketing goals and objectives for your organisation based on the comparative findings.
