About This Document

Cloud computing is an internet-based computing technology that allows users to share resources, compute, and store data online. This allows a company to execute specific tasks without having to invest in or purchase its own resources. The IaaS and PaaS techniques for migrating Webb's Stores' database to the cloud will be discussed in this assignment. This assignment will analyse the two ways and recommend one that would be best for Webb's Stores.

2CLOUD COMPUTING Cloud computing is a computing software and infrastructure model which is used inenabling ubiquitous access to resources such as servers, applications, storage and networkswhich have been configured and can be allocated and managed with minimal effort throughthe use of the internet (Hamdaqa, 2012). A hybrid cloud is a term used in cloud computing torefer to a cloud computing environment that utilizes a combination of private cloud, onpremises infrastructure and third party cloud services which work together to bring aboutthe whole cloud computing solution to a company. Cloud computing is in some aspectsreferred to as Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) because it provides computing resources overthe internet which are virtually available. Webb’s is a company which is trying to use cloudcomputing to optimize its operations and save on some of its operational costs. They want tomigrate their MS SQL Server 2012 R2 database to an IaaS instance. The types of security they can deploy to protect data through migration to a publiccloud are data in motion encryption such as using a virtual private network (VPN) or asecured socket layer (SSL). An SSL is a security technology which is standardized and used inestablishing a link which is encrypted between a web browser and a server. The benefits ofthat would result from this deployment is that the data of the company will be safely securedand will not be easily accessible to outside individuals. The data will also be easily accessiblefrom anywhere which allows a lot of portability to the employees of the company. The issuesthat would arise would be that their data will be at risk to a new breed of people such ashackers who can try and attain this data for personal, professional or financial gain. Question 2The risks associated with migrating the mission critical database to the cloud are that
