Introduction
It has been found that a growing number of men are being sexually harassed in the
workplace regularly by both the female colleagues and the managers. Sexual harassment in
the workplace can be defined as requests for sexual favours, unwelcoming the sexual desires,
physical as well as verbal conduct of sexual nature that affects the implicitly or explicitly an
individual’s behaviour in the work environment (Holland et al. 2016). The Equal
Employment Opportunity Commission stated that out 6,822 sexual harassment cases in 2015,
17.1% has been filed by men. Further, it has been found that there is a significantly growing
number of sexual harassment at work. This study will discuss the concept of sexual
harassment of men at work with the help of theory.
Discussion
According to the report published by the recent studies, it has been found that men
and women have different types of subjective outcomes in the actual as well as the
hypothetical cases of sexual harassment (Russell and Oswald 2016). The sexual attention at
work, as well as other initiated processes, are likely to affect the professional and the personal
outcomes of the individuals. The behaviours of the individuals can be considered as harassing
by any gender if there is a perceived loss of control over one’s professional as well as
personal security and status. The concept of sexual harassment falls under the phenomena of
Negotiation of Gender and thus it attempts to redefine what constitutes appropriate
behaviour as well as the roles for women and men (McLaughlin et al. 2018). The advantage
of this theory is that it provides cultural and theoretical perspective in the workplace. On the
other hand, the disadvantage of this theory is that it increases the gap between the two
genders.
