1CROSS- CULTURAL MANAGEMENTIntroductionThe United Arab Emirates or UAE has a diverse society and culture. They have a mixedculture due to the influence of Islamic, Persian and Arabic on their architecture, attire, cuisine,lifestyle and also music. Their weekend begins on Friday as it is considered as the holiest dayand that is why most of the Muslim countries celebrate their weekend either on Thursday- Fridayor Friday- Saturday (Al Mazrouei and Pech 2015). UAE cultureThere are many interesting facts about the culture of UAE. It is the federation of sevenemirates such as Abu Dhabi, Umm al- Qaiwain, Ajman, Sharjah, Dubai, Ras Al- Khaimah andFujairah. It is a Muslim dominated country and Islam is considered as the basis of UAE’spolitics, culture and lifestyle. The official language is Arabic. On the other hand, it is a multi-cultural nation which is tolerant towards other religions too. All the citizens have the freedom topractice any religion as per their wish and the country celebrates the festival of Diwali,Christmas and Eid. The country is culturally diverse as they have 200 different nationalitiesstaying in the same place. Emirati clothes are significant since the historical age and a symbol of pride for them.The Arabian men wear a white cloak which is known as ‘kandura’ or ‘dishdash’ or ‘thawb’.There is similarity with the desert garments worn by men in North Africa. The women in theUAE wear a long black gown which is known as ‘abaya’ (AlMazrouei and Pech 2015).There are two classifications in the Arabian society- the nationals and the foreignimmigrants. A federal government is present in the country with the inclusion of several parts.
