Introduction
Tim cook is a present CEO of Apple an international company which deals in manufacturing and
selling electronics. After Steve Jobs, Tim Cook took over the role and performed the activities of
CEO in Apple. In this report, the leadership style and strategies will be discussed which are
followed by Tim cook and Steve jobs. In Apple, leadership is an important aspect of the
company. Steve jobs have created the company from baby to giant. It was believed that after the
loss of Steve Jobs, Apple has left the treasured leader. This report includes the biography of Tim
cook and Steve jobs and compares and contrasts bout leadership styles of leaders will be
discussed.
Steve jobs biography
Steven Paul Jobs was the original name of Steve Jobs. He was an entrepreneur, inventor and
designer of America who was CEO and chairman of Apple computer. He was born on February
24, 1955, in San Francisco, California. The leadership skills of Steve Jobs have turned Apple as
one of the biggest tech giants. Steve Jobs was very innovative and always focused on his passion
and vision. He always had effective communication with employees to make efficiency at
workplace (Madlock, et al., 2008). He was always the transformational leader and he worked as
a charismatic leader. He always emphasized teamwork and makes them understand the
importance of teamwork. He always believed to have a vision in life as to develop a successful
leader he made a clear vision of the company. He followed the strategy to follow excellence, not
money as to focus on the ideas and put innovation in the products to achieve success (Lok and
Crawford, 2004).
Tim Cook biography
Tim cook is a business executive in America and he was born on November 1, 1960. He is the
current CEO of Apple and he joined Apple Company in 1998 and he was born in Alabama,
United States. He was accepted by Clara and Paul Jobs. He has learned a lot from his father to
do the things by him for assembling and disassembling the electronic instruments. In his life, he
had written poetry and played guitar. In initial stage he had worked with Atari and he gave his
best in job by working even in night shifts (Sharma and Grant, 2011). He was very innovative

and intelligent from an early age. He joined Apple Company in 1990 for revitalizing Apple and
he returned in Apple with new management and altered stocks and brings the Apple on track by
inventing iMac and attracting customers towards company (Mohammad Mosadegh, et al., 2006).
Leadership Style
The leadership style of CEO Tim Cook is a managerial style which is also a democratic
leadership style. He has adopted the legendary entrepreneur’s existing practices and then
developed in a unique way as a leader in the company. Tim Cook was a leader who takes risks
and as a leader he took extreme decisions. According to him it is necessary for a leader to take
risks in business for taking effective decisions in business. In order to prosper in business, it is
essential to take the risk and implement effective strategies in business. In comparison, Steve
Jobs was a unique individual and boisterous while Tim Cook was little reserved and quieter. He
always listens to people who are around him at the workplace and outside workplace (Rubin,
2013). Time Cook is leaders who always listen to others ad trust the peoples and their opinions
as it is important in business to build trust in team. According to Tim Cook, it is important to
have diversity. In electronics and Technology Company, it is necessary to have innovation and in
Apple Company it is essential to have unique and minded individuals for creating future. The
leadership style of Steve Jobs was Autocratic and that is totally changed when the position of
CEO is taken over by Tim Cook. Employees always admired Tim Cook for his inspiring
leadership style as he always helps his subordinated to become a better human being (Elliot and
Simon, 2011).
The leadership style of Tim Cook is Democratic leadership style as Steve Jobs always followed
the Autocratic leadership style but Tim cook always promoted the democratic leadership style.
Cook always believed that it is necessary to build consent with senior management for taking
effective decisions in business (Cook, et al., 2012). he always gives his best in generating
autonomy with the new product development team and decrease the participation of the CEO in
the process of new product development. Teams and people around Tim Cook always praised
him for his quiet behavior and he thinks it as an effective leadership style. Tim Cook stated that
it is crucial to keep transparency in business for sustaining success. His leadership is admired by
many people (Bhatti, et al., 2012).

In a contrast of the leadership style of Steve Jobs and Tim Cook, Tim Cook always empathized
the different opportunities to sell to enterprises and Steve Jobs always disdained the Enterprise
and believed to sell to corporate IT department. Tim Cook always shared the limelight with top
management while Steve Jobs vaulted the limelight. Tim Cook is a versatile leader as he changed
the culture of Apple by asking effective communication with employees and making more trust
in workers. It is analyzed that he is a transformational leader as he always inspired followers to
exceed his own self-interest for the business for playing his role as a CEO in Apple Company.
In the Democratic leadership style, it is stated that team members take the participative role in
decision making process. Leaders who are democratic emphasize on the collaboration and
generating free flow ideas. To be an effective leader it is essential to include the personal traits
for building a relationship with the team (Hunter, et al., 2012). In a democratic leadership style,
it involves the leadership and authority as Tim Cook followed the democratic style which
involved the delegation of responsibility as he always delegated the responsibilities in team
members for facilitating the participation of members in making managerial decisions.
Steve Jobs and his leadership style was related to the transactional and transformational
leadership. In the transactional leadership style, leader uses the extrinsic and intrinsic rewards for
motivating the employees and analyzes their performance. In this leadership style, the objective
is predetermined and employees consider the objective and work effectively to achieve the goals
of the company. It helps in increasing job satisfaction and staff engagement. In transformational
leadership style the various level of communications is involved in different management for
achieving the objectives of the company (Ogbonna and Harris, 2000). It is essential fr leader to
influence workers for enhancing their efficiency and productivity by improving communication
and high visibility. In order to delegate the tasks to employees the various leadership styles are
involved in Apple Company. Steve Jobs was vision-oriented leader who always followed the
inspiring, motivating and stimulated for the development of the employees for achieving the
advanced level of effectiveness. In leader, it is necessary to encompass the transformational style
to endorse the changes and encourage innovation on the workers. The leadership style of Steve
Jobs has changed the organization by improving and producing the quality of computers for
satisfying the needs and preferences of customers (Rauf, 2014). Jobs' management style was very
effective which helped the company in producing high-quality computer products. Effective

assessment and must analyze the shortcomings and personal strength. The valuation helps the
managers in improving their capabilities. For an innovative leader, it is necessary to measure the
performance, innovative abilities and improve the profitability and making an active workplace
culture in the company. Steve Jobs always has a combination of various skills and attributes. In
Autocratic leadership style, Steve Jobs always holds responsibility and authority. He always took
the decisions without concerning with his subordinates. Tim Cook always took the initiative to
bring the manager in management for achieving the success and goals of the company (Van
Vugt, et al., 2004).
Tim Cook Vs Steve Jobs
In comparison, Tim Cook is better than Steve jobs as Tim Cook was worried about everything
about the company and Steve Jobs always cared to make the great products only. He always
emphasized the employees to work and called employees in mid of their vacations to work. Tim
Cook always cared about the employees and always displayed social responsibilities by working
and improving the conditions of labor (Ogbonna and Harris, 2000). Steve Jobs and Tim Cook
have their own beliefs for innovating products, customer satisfaction, and marketing strategy.
Steve Jobs always put his best in making a new product and he was insane for creating great
products in Apple while Tim Cook also appreciates the needs of workers and always took the
responsibility to improve the work culture. Steve Jobs resumed to apple when the company was
going through with bad phase and by showing the guts and aggression he brought the apple back
on the track (Kane and Fowler, 2011). It was his aggression which was appreciated and after that
the company has attained a reputation and become the work’s number in communication
technology. While Tim Cook is very calm and composed in nature.
The leadership style of Steve Jobs was visionary leadership, autocratic, democratic and laissez-
faire while Tim Cook always followed the autocratic leadership style which helps in making the
culture of Apple for creating success. Steve Jobs was such an inspirational leader and he
followed the unique leadership style. He stated that good leaders must have confidence to
perform the role of leader in Company (Richtel and Chen, 2014). He had achieved the goals and
created the portion of Apple in market by keeping the Confidence and he always made the best
efforts for improving the products. Steve Jobs was very attentive on his work as he joined Apple

in 1997 and he changed the company as he transformed the performance of the company
(Isaacson, 2012). He always believed in face to face communication as he strongly believed in
meeting the people and discuss the new ideas and he believed that it helps in bringing creativity
(Lussier and Achua, 2015).
Conclusion
Apple achieved the reputation because of Steve Jobs and he was the idealistic leader. Tim Cook
is an ideal leader for Apple Company but for Apple Company Steve Jobs will be ideal and hero
always. It is concluded in this report that leaders must be innovative, creative and analytical for
achieving the objectives of the company. Steve Jobs followed the Autocratic, visionary
leadership, laissez-faire and Tim Cook followed the Democratic leadership style. Steve Jobs was
very innovative and always focused on the products while Tim Cook focused on the performance
of the employees and provides the various benefits to employees to motivate the employees for
performing the activities and achieving the goals of the Apple Company. It is essential for
leaders to bring innovation in business for satisfying the needs and preferences of customers. A
leader must motivate employees for effective performance and achieving the goals of the
company.
