1HANDLING A CATThe video is on cat handling and restraining. In this assignment, the analysis would bedone based on the techniques used in handling the cat. In the video, the cat named Tom is oneyear old. According to the criteria in the controlling of animal, not all of the five points in theLevel 3 is met properly. Point 1 and point 5 were fulfilled correctly. Taking this intoconsideration, the level 1 and 2 points are given to the video as per the criteria on controlling ofanimal. There was one hand on the patient at all times where the arm was placed over the patientat all times. The handler was holding the cat properly to some extent where the hands grasp theforearm proximal to elbow and index finger was placed properly between the arms (Yin, 2015).In the video, the handler kept the forearm and elbow that helped to keep the cat close to thebody. This is an important step as when there is more surface area contact over the animal’s bodygives better control over the animal. The analysis of the video also showed that during thehanding the other hand was placed over the scruff of the cat. Handler did not use lifting by thescruff of the cat in the video and no hurting the cat as suspending the body weight or skin on theback of its neck is wrong and painful for the animal. It is an inappropriate and disrespectful wayto handle a cat (Williams, 2016). However, the animal did struggle and break free. This is the reason when the movementis not controlled in all directions and patient seemed nervous as it shows that it is in danger. Thearm was placed properly over the scruff of the cat and pressure was applied as required on theanima as described in the video. There was also no walking past dogs or loud noise whilehandling the cat as it can cause nervousness and panic in the animal. The jugular vein was shownproperly in the video for the saphenous vein puncture (Sachs et al., 2017). Lateral recumbencywas not done in a proper manner in the video where this technique is used for restraining ananimal.
