Introduction
This report provides an insight comparison on services provided by Amazon Web
Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). The three companies
are main players of business cloud services. This report compares the services they provide
specifically looking at their service features, IPv4 and IPv6 addressing and redundancy and
backup.
Comparison on Services Features
Amazon Web Services (AWS)
Runs on Amazon Linux which supports several other Linux distributions –CentOS,
Red Hat, SUSE and Ubuntu (Amazon, 2017).
Services provided include:
o Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) that offer secure, resizable compute
power in the cloud controllable by an API.
o Amazon Route 53 is a networking service that provides a scalable Managed
Domain Name Services. It is also compliant with IPv6
o Amazon Elastic File System that offers effortless, scalable file storage for use
with Amazon EC2 instances in the AWS Cloud.
IPv4 and IPv6 addressing
o AWS supports both IPv4 and IPv6 for managing virtue networks
Redundancy and Backup
o Offers Amazon S3 Reduced Redundancy Storage that is designed to offer
durability and objects availability 99.9%.

o Offers multi-regional, regional, nearline and coldline storage options.
Microsoft Azure
Runs on Microsoft Azure. Supported Linux distributions are CentOS, Debian, Oracle
Linux, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, SUSE Linux Enterprise, openSUSE and Ubuntu
(Zarkos, Foulds & Squilace, 2017).
Services provided include:
o Azure Batch for running large-scale parallel and high-performance computing
(HPC) applications
o Azure DNS and Traffic Manager compares to AWS Route 53 for Domain
name system management
o Microsoft Azure provides Azure storage for Blob storage, File storage, and
Queue storage.
IPv4 and IPv6 addressing
o MA supports both IPv4 and IPv6 networking protocols (Tuliani, Wheeler &
Dwivedi, 2016).
Redundancy and Backup
o MA provides Azure Backup (MARS) agent that backs up files and folders,
System Center DPM that backs up Files, Folders, Volumes, VMs,
Applications and Workloads, Azure Backup Server that backs up Files,
Folders,Volumes, VMs, Applications and Workloads and Azure IaaS VM
Backup that backs up VMs and All disks using PowerShell.
Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
Supported virtual machines include CentOs, Container-Optimized OS from Google,
CoreOs, Debian, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL),SUSE Enterprise Linux Server

(SLES), SLES for SAP, Ubuntu, Windows Server and SQL Server on Windows
Server (Google Cloud Platform, 23 Sep 2017).
Services Provided include:
o Google Compute Engine that delivers virtual machines
o Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) delivers managed networking functionality which
includes small IP address range selection, routes, firewalls, Virtual Private
Network (VPN), and Cloud Router.
o Provides Managed Databases (RDBMS, NoSQL), Object Storage and
Archival
IPv4 and IPv6 addressing
o All VPC networks use the IPv4 protocol but IPv6 is not currently supported.
Redundancy and Backup
o GCP offers multi-regional, regional, nearline and coldline storage options.
Each guarantees durability, scalability, 99.9% availability and consistent data
storage service.
o GCP offers on-demand and automated backup services
