AI Summary
This assignment details the design and configuration of a Local Area Network (LAN). It outlines a network topology with 13 subnets, specifying IP address ranges and default gateways for each subnet. The document provides instructions for configuring routers and switches, including hostname, banner, passwords, interfaces, and RIP routing protocol implementation. Configuration examples are given using Cisco IOS commands.

The assumption is that all the labs will have the same setup
Function of devices
Switch – Connects the devices such as computers and to other computers and to routers
Router - Routes traffic to and from a specific network
Cable – They are the physical connections between devices
Firewall – Used to protect the network by filtering data to allow only what is specified as
legitimate
Inventory
Routers – Thirteen routers one for each subnet
Switches – Twelve switches for each lab and three more to be used for the offices

Cables
Ethernet cables – 200m of Ethernet cables to be used for connection between the routers and
switches and switches and end devices
Serial DCE and Serial DTE – 500meach for using in the router to router connections
IP Address Plan
Subnet address = 10.104.180.0/23
Therefore, borrowed bits = 23 – 8 = 15 and host bits = 9
Number of subnets that can be created = 223 = 32768
Number of hosts in each subnet = 29 = 512
Number of address to be reserved per subnet = 10/100 x 512 =51.2 approx. 52

Set the default gateway to the subnet address - ip default-gateway 10.104.192.0
For the router to router configuration configure a serial connection
Configure a rip to ensure subnets can communicate to each other
