Abstract
Nuclear weapon tests are referred to as experiments used to ascertain the ability, yield,
and the productiveness of the nuclear weapons. Nuclear weapon testing is an activity that has
been done in the world for quite some time now. Over the years, different countries have been
testing their nuclear records. Testing of nuclear weapons provides practical information on how
their operation, detonation, and impacts. Nevertheless, nuclear testing has been mainly used to
indicate both scientific and military strength. The practice of nuclear weapon has been eliciting
heated debate in the world. There are lots of politics that surround the practice. While there are
countries that support it, there are others that are vehemently against it. This research seeks to
study the controversies surrounding nuclear weapon testing. Nuclear weapon testing has
remained a very controversial issue in the society for a long time. This happens because it has
been, over the years, influenced by politics. That is why it is perceived as a means of expressing
the military and political superiority. It will achieve this by conducting a systematic review of
published literature. This will be done by using appropriate databases to access the best
literature, review, and analyze them using a meta-analysis. The research expects to establish that,
indeed, nuclear weapon testing is a controversial issue that has been causing a heated debate
regarding the politics of military prowess.

The purpose of this research will be to study about the controversies surrounding the
practice of nuclear weapon testing. Nuclear weapon tests are referred to as experiments used to
ascertain the ability, yield, and the productiveness of the nuclear weapons. Nuclear weapon
testing has remained a very controversial issue in the society for a long time. This happens
because it has been, over the years, influenced by politics. That is why it is perceived as a means
of expressing the military and political superiority. Nuclear weapon testing is not a new
phenomenon. It is an activity that has been done in the world for a very long time. Over the
years, various governments have been conducting tests on the nuclear weapon that they want to
manufacture. The practice of nuclear weapon has been eliciting heated debate in the world. There
are lots of politics that surround the practice. While there are countries that support it, there are
others that are vehemently against it. Research has been done to study about this practice.
However, there are inadequate studies on the negative impacts of nuclear weapon testing as well
as the solution to the controversies that arise as a result of such testing. There is an also
inadequate study on the reasons why nuclear weapon testing has become a very controversial
issue in the society today. Whenever any nuclear weapon testing is done, it is politicized. There
are some people who also perceive the testing as a demonstration of military strength. That is
why nuclear weapon testing receives mixed reaction from across the world. This research will,
therefore, seek to fill the missing gap in existing research by addressing these issues.
The research is aimed at studying about the practice of nuclear weapon testing. The stud
acknowledges that nuclear weapon testing is not a new practice because it has been done for
many years. However, there is limited research that has been carried out to study more about the
practice. The main objective of this research will be to study the controversies surrounding the

issue of nuclear weapon testing. This research will also strive to accomplish the following
objectives:
1. To investigate the negative impacts of nuclear weapon testing on the human beings and
environment
2. To study the reasons why nuclear weapon testing has been used to prove a country’s
military prowess
3. To study the reasons why nuclear weapon testing has been used as a political tool in the
world
4. To investigate the strategies that can be applied to tackle the tensions elicited by nuclear
weapon testing
Literature Review
The research will be done by using a systematic review. This is a methodology which
simply involves the review of published literature. For it to be a success, the review process must
be done by following the right procedure. After the identification of the topic, what will follow is
the selection of the key words. Based on the research topic, the key words to be selected include:
nuclear weapon, weapon testing, weapon, and nuclear weapon testing. However, for the research
to be more successful, only the most appropriate publications will be selected. So far, the
research expects to settle on two publications. These are: “Invention and uninvention in nuclear
weapons politics” and “Mortality among military participants at the 1957 PLUMBBOB nuclear
weapons test series and from leukemia among participants at the SMOKY test”.
