AI or artificial intelligence is a technological innovation that uses machines with
intelligent capabilities and that can perform tasks that normal human beings do. It plays an
important role in technology industry and has paved its way into other sectors as well. There are
76% of people who feel that there will be high levels of inequality in the future due to AI (AI and
the Future of Work, 2017). These machines have knowledge, reasoning, problem solving,
learning and planning abilities and are used for getting activities done in businesses. It is
considered to be the future of work and they replace jobs in some industries such as
transportation and manufacturing of products or services. These machines can overpower
humans by the year of 2060 (New Scientist, 2017). However, it will create more job opportunities
and not cause unemployment, by causing a job boost of 0.2 million. Education, scientific and
technical work, information and communication, accommodation and food services are some
sectors that can benefit from it while construction, retail, finance and transport can be heavily
affected by introduction of AI in work.
Artificial intelligence has become more skilled as compared to human beings and
perform tasks more efficiently. Even though people are afraid that they might lose their jobs,
there is a good future for AI in work sector. It has forecasted that there will be even more
economic growth as around 7,000 more jobs will be created, that means a 20% creation
(Artificial intelligence will create as many jobs as it destroys, according to a PwC analysis,
2018). AI has a great influence in the future as there are individuals that do not have the required
training or skills to work in some jobs and this can only be filled by machines. These people do
not know how they react to such occurrences and have very confused feelings about AI.
However, there are many safety issues regarding AI, as high manipulation of data, security
breaches and risks of malfunctioning of machines can occur (Osoba and Welser IV, 2017).
Therefore, AI has many benefits and drawbacks, and it is up to humans to decide how they want
to perceive this concept.
